WR Ted Ginn, Jr. (Official Thread)

Teddy did state that he was not going to run track this season because he knows he needs to put some bulk on for football season. Oh, and he also said that he wants to get faster
It seems to me that "Bulking up" might threaten the "get faster" part... am I the only one who is concerned?

I thought that, like a plane, when you add bulk, you have more resistance and therefore do not have the same momentum when the same amount of energy is applied. Lydell Ross worked all the offseason in the pool to bulk up his legs, and I thought it might have contributed to his not being quite as explosive as before.

Comparing Lydel to Teddy in any category isnt fair to either of them.
I wasn't comparing them personally, just that one's extreme efforts in the off season didn't pay off as well as he would have liked. :(

I *WANT* to see Teddy faster, but in everything there is a sacrifice. And I'm sure the training staff knows this, and will help him keep that from happening. You say that you assume his speed will not suffer; I HOPE his speed will not suffer, but all I wonder is, will one affect the other?

Hey, I'm all for being proven wrong - I'd rather NOT be worrying about this, so if you know something I don't, let me know! :)

I think Ginn bulking up in the off season has been beaten to death in other threads. I guess the consensus that we came to was that the training staff (both football and track), Ginn, and his parents probably know what is best for him better than we do, so they'll most likely be making the best decision.

But if you want my two cents, I believe he should bulk up his legs mainly just to avoid injury. He's got ridiculously long legs, and from what I see in his stride, *maybe* low arches.

I haven't seen much about it, hence why I still had the question. I must have missed the previous discussion.

Very true, and I agree. I'm sure they know better than me, for sure. I'm no expert, I have a lot to learn about the game.

To add somethign to the "Where is teddy" topic, there was some stupid mixup that had Teddy Ginn on some random team's roster back in January (Air Force?) via ESPiN. It was some sort of strange mixup, possibly to earn ratings.

speaking of getting off the line quicker...

notice that teddy got much more involved in the offense when we started motioning him more to help him get off the line and away from jamming corners. all of a sudden you didn't hear about him not being in the right place at the right time either. getting that release from the line was key.

those 6 - 8 pounds of muscle could allow him to be more effective coming ooff the line of scrimmage
