WR Ted Ginn, Jr. (Official Thread)

All you folks that think that Ginn can just step in and shut down probably the best WR in the country are on some serious crack. If he were that good, wouldn't you think he'd already be playing defense? :roll1:

Fox will do well on Edwards...he may give up the short routes but he won't let Edwards beat him deep and he has the hops to keep Edwards from catching the lobs.

I thought we were talking about next year.

With Fox and Youboty...there's no question you are solid at CB. But I was talking about replacing Fox.

And my mention of "like Edwards" means dangerous recievers in general. I just choose Edwards because he is the best...meaning if Ginn could shut a guy down like that...then of course we'd need him there. I in no way think he could go up against Edwards in 12 days. Fox can jump...that's what we need. Fox is also a Senior...he's gonna step it up during the scUM game.

Couple of points

1-You need to have the ball in a guy like Ginn's hands as much as possible-that means WR. At WR primarily, Ginn can easily get the ball in his hands8-9 times a game-slants,bubble screens,reverses-almost guaranteed, plus punt returns. This is without further development at WR, which I am sure will happen. At CB, he might get an INT-he might not.

2-Ginn is not a physical player. I imagine big WRs like Edwards or Mike Williams could easily outmuscle him on jump balls, plus he was not known as a hitter in HS. I think he is probably a lot rawer in his CB skills than people suspect, as well-no facts, just conjecture.

3-If it was as easy to recruit WRs w/ the kind of speed Ginn has, everyone would do it. They don't. Bottom line-Ginn can come in as a situational DB, but can help the team more at WR,IMO. Just think about it-would OSU have won the game if they had Deion Sanders playing at CB, but no TG2 at WR-I don't think so.

I'm looking forward to watching him play WR for the next 2 years.

You're right Mili, I was just thinking he already proved a lot to skeptics, and it would be one heck of a finish to play DB vs scUM. I realize it won't happen though. [/Looking through TG can do anything and everything glasses]

I wouldn't man him up on anybody. I'd let him freelance like Gamble did his junior year in case of emergency. Just let him read the QB and keep everything in front of him. There's no reason to believe that he couldn't break on the ball in a flash.

what are you mean have i see him play, the guy was rated the #1 defensive back in the nation and named the defense player of the year coming out of high school. I think the scouts know a little bit more than we do when it comes to rating talent. therefore, i dont need to see him play corner to know if he can play. also, the guy is a superior athlete, what wr in the nation is gonna burn him, maybe edwards because of the height, but besides him nobody.

Its the Psychic Buckeyes Network. (Now accepting Mastercard, Visa and complete credulity).

Speed burns, not height. Only other way Edwards "burns" Ginn is with his technique of the line. Ginn isn't going on D against anyone this year. (Frankly I hope he doesn't go on D next year). But its a moot point.
Edwards is bigger and more physical -- that's why we don't want the closest thing tOSU has ever had to Peter Warrick wrapped up with Sanders-like return speed plus Raghib "The Rocket" Ismail zip on offense, knocking heads on D with anyone. You put this once in however many decades, potential 2-time Heisman candidate quality player where he can do the most good for the team.

That is on Special teams and it is on offense.
Give it to Ginn, Pass it to Ginn & Give it to Ginn A-Ginn.
Case closed.

Yeah, I know about some Snoop Dogg, and I think that he would bitch slap you for making such a generic nickname for Ginn.

Now if Ginn played alonside OJ, you could get away with Ginn and Juice. :slappy:
