WR Ted Ginn, Jr. (Official Thread)

Having two guys back there is a strategic thing. If you have two, the other team's rushers must split and key on two different guys instead of one.
Actually you never want your punt team to split...they always run lanes except for designated "hot" men. Punting is usually directional...many teams like to punt to short side or their bench. Two returners should guarantee at the least, a fair catch by taking away the option to kick away from a dangerous returner. Holmes' gaffe today was not a bad play but an extremely rare bounce.

So knife-partypooper, after what Teddy did today, do you still think he's not ready to play? I'd say after a 67 yard punt return and a 45 yard reverse (called back), I think it's time for you to eat your words.

He'll probably point to his one and only dropped pass for rationale - which is garbage.

He's in a hole too deep to get out.

I would say he's ready to see a few additional passes his way, 1 reverse a game, and continued punt return coverage.

All of us would love to see Ginn on kick returns, but Hall proved what I said a few days ago... Hall is too good to give Ginn a chance. TG will be in there next year.

Also, I do not think you can build an offense around Ginn, yet. I agree he needs more passes per possession, but I would say we looked his way a good deal today (3 times in 8 throws).

Part of me still thinks JT and the offense have a trick up their sleeve like an option reverse to Ginn, since Smith-Hall/Pittman-Ginn clearly could pull that off. And they will have shut us all up when they pull that on Nov 20, and were brilliant to wait that long.

Write it down - Ginn throws a pass against scUM.

I think Ginn is a wonderful athlete. I'm just trying to keep it in perspective. I'm still waiting for an argument that substantiates the necessity to put him back returning kickoffs. If he could handle the work load, I would be behind him 100% cheering for him. But that is a lot of work for a freshman, even the most athletic freshman this side of the Mississippi. And yes, Tedd--or the imposter--your punt return was impressive. I haven't seen speed like that in scarlet and grey in a long time.

Ted Ginn Jr. is something kinda special, and to think, he's only a pup! Wow! All he can do is get better, and better. Then, when he crosses over to the defensive side of the ball, watch out! This kid is a big success story!!!

I don't see your arguement. The kid has played 8 games now. No injuries. He's returning punts, STARTING on offense, has been back a couple times as the second return man on kickoffs this year, and next year will be playing defense as well.

Seriously, what do you know that we don't, that seems to show you this kid is not world class RIGHT NOW?

good correction lloyd.... but the fact they gave Ginn the Reverse rather than Holmes is saying something.

I think it only says that they have two guys capable of running the reverse. Holmes had one last week. Ginn had one this week. Now the opposition has to be aware that either of these guys can run the reverse.

He is a world class athlete. I would never argue that. But I don't want him to fall into the same pit Devin Hester has. Hester is a year older--and probably not quite the athlete--but you can see it in the routes he runs. He is overworked. I don't have a magic ball, and don't know jack. If Ginn proves to me that he is ready for 20 touches, I would gladly come back here and retract all I've said.

Seriously, I would love for this kid to be successful if he is ready for it. He may be the most athletic player we've ever had.

Giving him the ball on a reverse is a testament to the trust JT has placed in Tressel.
So, not to be off topic but am I the only one that thinks this doesn't make too much sense?

Teddy's just amazing. The guy doesn't need to break tackles, he gets through the hole so fast that nobody has a chance.
