WR Ted Ginn, Jr. (Official Thread)

STILL IN FLUX
What that means for Sunday's game remains to be seen. Sparano said the team is working toward finding a role for Wilford on special teams, which could put him back onto the active roster. That would likely mean Brandon London would be inactive.

Based on Wednesday's practice, it seems as if the team is expecting to give Wilford repetitions in the game. But even that assumption might be too premature.

With the team seemingly set on Camarillo and Davone Bess (both players have very specific roles), it brings into question the roles of Ted Ginn Jr. and Hagan. And with Hagan suddenly playing as the No. 1 receiver, Ginn's status becomes uncertain ? especially since Bess has seen more time as a punt returner.

"I don't know, man," Ginn said Wednesday of where he fits into the rotation. "We're trying to get all of that sorted out."
Ginn is still the team's most promising deep threat, which means Camarillo's prediction of a five-man rotation makes the most sense. Whether Wilford can find his way into the rotation is an important question.

Receiver Ted Ginn Jr. still Dolphins starter
By Omar Kelly | Sun-Sentinel.com
September 11, 2008

DAVIE - While other receivers might be working with the first-team offense, Dolphins coach Tony Sparano said Ted Ginn Jr. remains his starter.

Ginn, the Dolphins' first-round pick in the 2007 draft, caught two passes for 17 yards and carried the ball once, gaining two yards in last Sunday's 20-14 loss to the Jets.

Derek Hagan, who was unseated by three-year veteran Greg Camarillo for his starting flanker role last week, worked with the starters in Ginn's place during Wednesday's practice. But Sparano insinuated the coaches are merely experimenting.

"Every day we go out there on the practice field, every game that we play it's a tryout," Sparano said. "We're still trying to find the right pieces to the puzzle as we get onto the games. We need to see consistency come out of some of these guys, and they know they need to be consistent."

Sparano said the depth chart shuffling has more to do with the coaches trying to establish roles for each wideouts. But he did acknowledge there's only a "little separation" between Ginn, Hagan, Camarillo, rookie Davone Bess, and Ernest Wilford, the top five receivers.

Wilford was inactive for last Sunday's game, but Sparano said he's identified a few special teams roles for the free-agent addition that might allow the unit's most experienced receiver to be active for Sunday's game against the Cardinals (1-0).

"We're going to play these guys and we're going to see who can play, and who is going to bring what to the table," Sparano said.

Offensive coordinator Dan Henning said the receivers have been working so hard this week three needed intravenous fluids at the end of Wednesday's practice.

finheaven.com at times even bashes Ronnie Brown. There is no player on there that is exempt to the bashing. I am hoping Teddy and the Dolphins come out and have a better game then last week.

so? It's a pro board. And the Dolphins stink. What do you expect? Other than Ronnie Brown, has any player on that team proven anything?

Bashing college players versus pro is completely different.

Ginn had 1 catch for 9 yards today.

I watched the game. It wasn't too good if your a fins fan. It looks like he didnt play very much at all. He didn't return one punt/kick. They've been relying more on Bess for that. Ginn is one of the best returners in the game and I have no idea why they wouldnt want to use him. Awful move by Sparano.

Honestly I like the way Henne plays and think he would be better suited for this offense, but especially getting the ball to Ginn down the field.

overall he only had 1 reception for 9 yards.

Dolphins insider
Ginn practically invisible

By Omar Kelly | SunSentinel.com 10:41 PM EDT, September 14, 2008 Ted Ginn Jr. is no longer returning punts. He's not the Dolphins' kickoff returner anymore. And the former first-round pick isn't even getting on the field during the offense's three receiver sets.

At this rate the coaches might as well go ahead and make Ginn a gunner or flyer on special teams or else his salary and draft pick won't come closer to matching his value to the team on Sundays.

While Ginn was the only Dolphins receiver who got a vote of confidence from coach Tony Sparano last week, he was used only in the offense's I-formation sets and power packages. In that role he caught one pass for 9 yards, and that came late in the fourth quarter with Chad Henne leading the team in mop-up duty.

"When you go in you just have to try to make your play, get going the best way you know how," said Ginn, who caught two passes last week against the Jets.

After all the smoke clears over who will start at RG, the real story will remain, on offense anyways, how will the WR's play. A breakdown of game film from last week shows Ted Ginn being manhandled by Darrell Revis. Revis, taken after Ginn in the 2006 draft, chucked Ginn a good 6-8 yards off his route when Ginn failed to muscle his way out of the coverage. Later, the sub-6 foot WR could not so much as knock a ball down in the end-zone preventing the Dolphins from taking one more shot at a game winning touchdown.

I hope they trade Ted to a team that will use him the right way before his career gets derailed. The Dolphins organization right now is resembling the Bengals of the 90's. Totally fucking inept. The D and O coordinators are flat out garbage and should be gone. The sickest part is watching them reminded me of the game against USC on Saturday, both totally unable to adjust to anything going on. Pitiful.

Henne, of all people, is Ginns' last hope in Miami. Chad is the only QB on the roster who looks Ginn's way and gets him the ball. Pennington doesnt have the arm to get the ball downfield where Ginn can get loose.

05: Why is Ted Ginn not being used more in the passing game?

  • Many fans are calling Ted Ginn a bust and judging by his statistical numbers compared to his drafting spot...it's not unfounded criticism. While I am hardly a Ginn supporter, it should be noted that he only started playing the position in 2004 at Ohio State. The WR position is one of the most difficult positions to learn in the NFL for a true wide-out. Ginn is not a true wide-out so the learning curve will be greater.

This makes sense. Don't put it on the noodle armed QB who underthrew the pass to a DB who had better position to catch the ball.....blame the WR.
