WR Ted Ginn, Jr. (Official Thread)

It's still amazing to me how he still blows right by everyone as if he's the only one running. He is still the fastest player in the league IMO. My dream would be to see him catchin something in the flats and then just burn someone like D'Angelo Hall to the endzone by 5 yards (because he would). I think its funny how people look at 40's and decide who's the fastest player around. Look at how close people come to Devin hester when he's running into the endzone they're right behind him, but with Ginn he's coasting into the endzone. Devin is the best returner no doubt, but man does Ginn have a gear that no one has.

3. Will Ted Ginn Jr. eventually develop into a No. 1 receiver?

The background: His size (5-11, 178) and route-running skills remain question marks, particularly for a player drafted ninth overall. His 4.3 speed, sure hands and open-field running ability give him a chance to become more than a return specialist and complementary receiver. But Ginn, who caught two touchdowns and had only three catches longer than 25 yards as a rookie, has a long way to go simply to become a dependable receiver.

The answer: No. Carolina's Steve Smith (5-9, 185) and Santana Moss (5-11, 200) are the only No. 1 wideouts who have Ginn's size - and each is more powerfully built. On a team with no star-caliber receivers, Ginn will get a chance to become the go-to guy. But Miami's best hope is that Ginn becomes a dangerous No. 2 and the team eventually finds someone with more size and skill to be the featured receiver.

Ginn's only problem was they couldn't get him the ball! :( He will make a jump this year with better QBing.

OK, realistically, just where is the "better QBing" going to come from? With McCowen, Beck , and/or Henne on Miami's depth chart at QB (link below), it could be another long year for the Dolphins.

The Dolphins need to trade for Favre.

Beck is going to be ready to go. The vast improvements on the oline in the offseason will allow him more time and the timing he and Ginn develop will be crucial to Teddy's growth. Hopefully gone are the quick hitches that Cameron endlessly called against press coverage last season and we'll see more deep outs, fly's and deep crosses from Teddy to get him off and running. The health of Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams is going to be a huge factor.

There was also the problem of his teammates committing irrelevant penalties on his returns. His first few return touchdowns were called back for penalties. Had those touchdowns stood, everyone would be looking at Ginn in a different light.

Correct me if Im wrong but isn't Henne battling him for the starting position. I wonder just how much more Ginn appreciates Troy now.

There is a 3 way race for the top spot but Beck is the front runner going into camp and Henne is 3rd. He just signed his contract today and I feel he will eventually beat out McCown this year. I dont see him beating out Beck unless Beck falls on his face or gets injured. Everyone seems to forget that Beck is a higher 2nd round pick than Henne is. Beck has been down in Miami all offseason working out and working on his release. He's poised to take the starting job and start leading the Dolphins this year.

(On Ted Ginn Jr. not being mentioned in the previous quote) -- "I think Teddy Ginn is honestly, and we talked about it a little yesterday, but Teddy, he makes a heck of a play in there yesterday in the bubble. And you're starting to see those things. But what I like the most about Ted, and I've told him this, is when we came here I think Teddy was playing faster after he caught the ball then before he caught the ball. And some of that has to do with learning the offense. Learning what you're doing a little bit and this is a young guy. Right now, Teddy is starting to play really fast and he's putting pressure on the defense and I really like that. You could see it. It's jumping off the film a little bit how fast he is playing and all of the sudden the ball is finding him. That tells me the game is slowing down a little for Ted and that's a positive for us."

(On giving any thought of changing Ted Ginn's duties on returns) – "No, I see it as a separate deal completely. I think Ted and everyone else knows right now, from a special teams standpoint that if you're the best guy, you have to go back there and play for us. You have to catch kicks, whatever the case might be, if you're the best guy. That being said, we can't be in the business right now of saving people, not that way, not on special teams. It's a critical part, particularly the return game. If Ted Ginn is our returner so be it. Right now we haven't settled on that at all. We're trying some people out back there and we'll see what happens when we get into the games. The problem there is at bats, there few and far between in the games, and we'll see what happens that way."

(On if he wants Ted Ginn to work on his speed before the catch) – "One of the things I did when I came here is, you would think it's the other way, you would think you look for the weaknesses in the players, I look for the strengths. I needed to find the strengths in each one of these players. What did they do on film positively, specifically the young players. A guy like Ginn, when I watched week one and week two, to week 15 and week 16, he wasn't even the same player. I wanted to see the positives that he brought to the table that way, and then figure out what we needed to fix, or what we needed to push, or what we needed to emphasize to him one way or the other. What I find in our league, with our players, is if you make it important to them, and you make it seem important to them, all of a sudden they focus on this a lot more. I think you throw out the positives to them and you say, 'Hey this is what we need to do, this is what we need to work on.' And one of the things me and Teddy talked about early on in the spring is that, 'Hey, your catching the ball fast at the end, but from A to B its taking you a little bit of time, we need that.' And I told him , 'That will improve when you start to learn the offense.' And it has."
