WR Ted Ginn, Jr. (Official Thread)

The Atlanta Falcons are saying Bill Parcels is going to be hired at Miami. They got turned down by the tuna and leaked the info in retribution. That would mean Cam Cameron, the man who put his neck on the line to pick up Ginn instead of Quinn is going to be gone.

I wonder who Parcels has in mind at QB...

According to ESPN radio Wayne has assured Parcells that he will not sell the team and BIll is considering.

From what I've read this morning. Parcells will not be the Head Coach, but VP of football operations. I think that his time in Dallas told Parcells that he could still build a winner, but pretty much hates the players and media enough that he doesn't want to deal with them every day.

Hopefully this means that Cameron can stick around for a year or two more and get a chance to show what he and his draft picks are capable of.
I really didnt know that Teddy was doing this well on at YPT basis - the 'Phins are terrible on their special teams blocking, and their offense features a) a bad line, b) a medicore QB, and c) schemes that don't focus on Teddy as a primary option.

Even with all that, this is exactly why they drafted TGII so high, and exactly why Tressel switched him to offense almost immediately. 17,7 YPT is a meaningful gain every time he touches it, and a really big play waiting to happen. Let's hope they can make some good moves to improve that team over the off season.
That 17.7 figure is a bit misleading though. He has more kickoff returns than catches and you are almost guaranteed 20 yards per kick off return. He still needs to get the ball more on offense.

Ted Ginn ranked 6th best kick returner by si.com.

So maybe he didn't deserve to be drafted in the top 10. But watch him return a couple of kickoffs and you'll get an idea of what the Dolphins were thinking.

Bengals notebook: Ginn learns to cope in Dolphins' tough season

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

CINCINNATI -- Ted Ginn Jr. did not taste defeat in 2006.

His first play of 2007, a kickoff return for an Ohio State touchdown against Florida in the BCS title game, seemed to portend more glory this year.

Instead, the receiver's 2007 has been a stunning reversal of fortune. Ginn's foot was injured in the celebration after the touchdown, and Florida swarmed the Buckeyes.

Even a higher-than-expected draft selection proved a mixed blessing. Miami Dolphins fans ripped the team for taking Ginn ninth overall.

Then came the season. The Dolphins (1-14) flirted with a winless season until beating Baltimore two weeks ago. They play the visiting Bengals (6-9) in the season finale Sunday.

Ginn has tried to make the best of a difficult year.

"You never want your rookie season to be like this, but in the end it can help you," he said yesterday. "You will know what to do if you ever come across this type of situation again. The growing pains have actually been good for us more than bad."

Ginn has had a modest first season. He has 27 receptions for 367 yards and a touchdown. He ranks ninth in the NFL with a 9.7-yard punt return average, including an 87-yarder for a touchdown.

"He's been outstanding with his work ethic, his practice habits and preparation," Dolphins coach Cam Cameron said. "He's going through the normal adjustments any player goes through coming into this league. We're very excited about the future for Ted Ginn and the Miami Dolphins."

Rookie season disappoints Ginn

By Kevin Goheen
Post staff reporter

The calendar year of 2007 got off to a pretty good start for Ted Ginn Jr. He returned the opening kickoff of last January's BCS national title game 93 yards for a touchdown to give Ohio State an early lead against Florida.

The rest of the year has been downhill.

Ginn injured his left foot in the touchdown celebration, didn't play the rest of the game and the Buckeyes' lead was short-lived as Florida went on to a 41-14 victory. The Miami Dolphins did make Ginn the ninth overall pick in last April's draft but Dolphin fans booed the pick and Miami has just one win in 15 games heading into Sunday's season finale against the Bengals at Dolphin Stadium.

Ginn has a pair of touchdowns - one receiving and one on a punt return - but he hasn't had the kind of impact as a rookie as he thought he would. He has 27 catches for 367 yards.

"I think God just puts you in situation where he wants you to fight," said Ginn this week on a conference call with Cincinnati media. "That's the only thing I can take out of it. Coming off the big return when I was at Ohio State to now; you go from a 12-1 team to a (1-14) team. All you can do is keep your head high and keep working."

Ginn struggles as rookie
After brief BCS title game highlight, his '07 went south - to lowly Miami
BY JOHN ERARDI | [email protected]

Ohio State fans remember Ted Ginn Jr. bringing them their first and last moment of joy in last season's BCS Championship Game vs. Florida with the runback of the opening kickoff for a touchdown.

Ginn will try to extend the heroics for the Miami Dolphins this Sunday at Dolphin Stadium against the Bengals as both teams wrap up what have been equally underachieving regular seasons.

How bad has it been for the 1-14 Dolphins? Even the Freudian slips speak of losing. When Ginn was asked to reflect on his 2007 performance, he inadvertently predicted a season-ending loss Sunday.

"I think God just puts you in situations where he wants you to fight," Ginn said. "That's the only thing that I can take out of it ... You go from a 12-1 team (at Ohio State) to a 1-15 team ..."

It's hard to blame Ginn for all this year's losing bubbling forth from the subconscious. Until you've nightmare-walked in his shoes, you just don't know the feeling.

"You never want your rookie season to be like this, but in the end it can help you," Ginn said in a Wednesday teleconference call with the Cincinnati media. "You will know what to do if you ever come across this type of situation again. ... The growing pains have actually been good for us, more than bad."

Can Ginn develop into No. 1 receiver?

As Ted Ginn Jr. completes his rookie season Sunday, even Dolphins coaches remain unsure of his ceiling as a receiver.

''He's going to be a good receiver. But is Teddy Ginn going to be a No. 1 receiver?'' Dolphins receivers coach Terry Robiskie asked, repeating the question. ``That's hard to say.''

Becoming a legitimate, long-term No. 1 receiver isn't too much to expect from the No. 9 draft pick. But whether he will be ''is still unclear to me because our quarterback play is so erratic,'' former Dolphins receiver O.J. McDuffie said. ``I like his hands. His ability to go across the middle and make tough catches has impressed me. [But] you see guys running wide open on other teams, and we don't have that on this team.''

Ginn, averaging 23.2 yards on kick returns and 9.7 on punt returns, has modest receiving numbers (27 catches/367 yards/one TD). Three areas where the Dolphins want improvement:

? Strength and conditioning. Robiskie noted Ginn has worn down and that New England ''knocked the crap out of him'' when he lined up inside the numbers Sunday. Ginn, who is 175 pounds, said he wants to add 10 pounds, which should help against press coverage.
