WR Ted Ginn, Jr. (Official Thread)

Ted is playing with the big boys now, playtime is over and he is going to have to earn whatever he gets. I also think he is smart enough not to try to do too much during the preseason what with the talent level of his blockers being suspect , if you will.

He looked visibly disappointed at one point on the sidelines in the 3rd Quarter. Teddy wants to play badly and he'll have to be a little patient with the pro game as he actually has to count on his teammates more than he did at tOSU. His game will come and I think John Becks future will go hand in hand with Ted's starting later this season.

Sure he does even though at times while at tOSU he didn't appear to need any. :tongue2:
And it didn't appear he had much last night which surprised me that a pro team couldn't come up with some. But all the players in the NFL that will make the team are better overall than collegiate and he will have to learn to play within those circumstances.

Ginn's talent stays bottled up
Two games into his pro career, Ted Ginn Jr. has yet to show the ability to change games that made him Miami's top pick.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Another preseason game passes and Dolphins fans are still unsure if rookie Ted Ginn Jr. has learned how to celebrate in the end zone without injuring himself.

Maybe the bigger uncertainty is whether Ginn, the electrifying receiver and returner taken with the ninth overall pick, will get close to the end zone any time soon.

The promise of Ginn's speed was put on hold again during Miami's 11-10 win at Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday.

Cameron said Ginn will no longer return kickoffs, only punts, and Ronnie Brown and Jesse Chatman will return kickoffs from now on. "That'll probably be our return unit," Cameron said. "We want to focus with Ted on the punt returns because that takes a lot of work and I want to make sure he gets as much work as he can."

I really hope this isn't going to last threw the season. Who puts there starting RB at kick return?? And Ted looks alittle nervous out there returning punts, and no blocking doesn't help him either.

Perfect punt returns, Ginn told

By Harvey Fialkov | South Florida Sun-Sentinel August 20, 2007
DAVIE - Dolphins coach Cam Cameron again indicated that first-round pick Ted Ginn Jr. will not return kickoffs until he has sharpened his punt-returning skills, even if that stretches well into the season.

Cameron compared Ginn's potential and progress to Bears Pro Bowl returner Devin Hester, who wasn't Chicago's primary kickoff returner until Week 13 of his rookie season last year.

"We looked around the league last year and there was another team in this league whose primary punt returner became an outstanding kick returner, didn't return kicks early in the year," Cameron said. "I think you've got to be good at one before you're good at two. I want to give him a chance to get comfortable as a punt returner before we ask him to be a kick returner.

In Pads Hester has no where near the speed of Ginn. Just because he had 6 returns last year, everyone thinks he is the fastest player. They need to look at game film and you can see that Ginn has an extra gear on Devin Hester. Hester has nice agility and burst speed, but endzone to endzone would get beasted by Ginn.

Teddy has really long strides which I think hamper him a little when changing directions, which also has kept his returns down in the NFL. Hester scampers more and his change of direction is a little smoother than Teds. 3 strides into his run though Ted is easily the fastest person I've ever seen in pads. Straight line or hitting a gap no one catches him, period.
