NFL scouts want to see Ted Ginn Jr. hurry up, but he?s going to make them wait.
Ginn, a former Ohio State receiver, is still recovering from a sprained left foot suffered in the celebration after his kickoff-return touchdown in the national championship game Jan. 8.
He was in a cast, then a protective boot he only recently shed. He?s not ready to run drills at the NFL combine, which begins Thursday in Indianapolis.

Cont'd...

Remember everyone...a 40 time can vary greatly based on starting abilities alone...so regardless of Teddy's flat speed, it is possible that he won't churn out a 4.2ish/4.3flat. Now...I have heard they run on this very fast, old turf at tOSU's Pro Day so we'll see. It gave Holmes a 4.38 which I knew he was fast, but not 4.38 fast. Also, something to keep in mind, it has been said numerous times that Gonzo beats Teddy in the 40. How true or documented that is I don't know, but it has been said on various occasions.

Lastly, like BN27 said...Hawk had a 4.4...Carp had a 4.48 or something. Whitner hit 4.3s...you name it. Very fast times on that strip. Whether or not his ankle is 100% right now, it is a great reason (excuse) to run at tOSU instead for the slight advantage it seems to give the kids.

I don't think that he will plummet but i can realistically see him dropping from a first rounder to at worst a second rounder...just based on the fact that no one really knows what his 40 time is...in my opinion there is no reason for him to run...he isnt going to go any higher than 6 or 7 so what does he have to gain

short of Ginn dying, there is no chance in hell he falls out of the first round.

I really can't see him dropping out of the 1st, but this a very competitive year in WRs too so he could lose some ground and end up lower in the 1st. Still, whether he's hurt or not I think this is a great decision for him.
As has been noted, our track is very good for getting some great 40 times. That combined with his film (should speak to his speed as is), there should be some buzz about him regardless.
Personally, I'm more interested in Gonzo's speed at the Combine. It's been hinted a couple times that he's even faster -- the combine is his chance to show it, and a good workout could really separate him from guys like Bowe and Rice.

At least for my part, the incredulity was not so much about how far he could drop if he logged a time that didn't meet expectations, but about what sort of time would be needed to meet expectations. He's not going to run anything approaching a 4.2, and to demand that he run that in order to maintain his status would be unrealistic. A time in the low 4.3's would verify that he's essentially as fast as anyone out there.
