WR Ted Ginn, Jr. (Official Thread)

i said top 5.. and IMO i think it will be one of the 5 most productive offenses in the history of college football..

I'll be satisfied with one of the top 5 offenses in the history of tOSU football. If the team scores more points per game than every team except 1969, 1973, 1976, and 1996; it will be in the top 5 in scoring offense with an average of at least 36 points per game. I think that will be enough to have a special season.

However, Teddy was burning everyone he faced last year, with the exception of Tejas.

Wow, where were you most of last year? He didn't exactly have spectacular games against Penn St., SDSU, Iowa, or Northwestern either. He made some great plays in other games like the punt return against Indiana, kickoff return against Minny, 42 yard touchdown against Miami OH, 57 yard touchdown against MSU, and key grabs in the Michigan game but the only games he actually dominated were the Notre Dame and Illinois games.

I really dislike 2 things in this thread......major hyperbole on the part of next years offense, and people laughing at the thought that somebody is as fast/almost as fast/faster than ginn. people....somebody is always bigger/better/faster. LSU has a few players that are as fast/faster than ginn. it's not impossible.

Just keep in mind that Offense is also a function of Defense. If the D struggles it could be counter productive to have an offenses that scores in three plays. We could end up using our speed weapons to keep the opponents honest while Pittman and Wells grind it out on the ground. Still should be a lot of points, but perhaps a bit short of expectations. This is Jim Tressel after all.

All that said, to read that coaches think a player like Ginn can be dramatically improved this season, and to think that our 'second string' tailback can knock defenders into next weeks practice - well, it sends chills.

Quite true. Xavier Carter won the 400-meter indoor NCAA Championships. He finished second in the 200-meters, with a time of 20.30. He may slow down a little on the football field, but to say he's not in Ginn's class when it comes to speed in hard to justify. Here's a blurb about Carter's 400-meter time at the NCAA indoor meet, held on March 11th:

On Saturday, Carter easily outdistanced the field in the 400-meter with a finish of 45.28, 0.39 seconds faster than the second-place finisher.
Carter’s finish was the second-fastest time in the world this season, and the ninth-fastest in the history of indoor track and field.

To back up BB, Ginn was widely considered the 2nd fastest player in his class behind Xavier Carter.
