WR Ted Ginn, Jr. (Official Thread)

Is Ginn ready to go? Without knowing how many reps he has had in practice, any specualtion is basically moot. We all *assume* he would be exceptional at CB, but without seeing him in action in practice, that is simply wishful thinking.

I'm not saying he could not do well or would not do well, but to assume he would be better off than someone who has been working on the skill set of a DB everyday year round is probably asking a bit much.

Bingo!

Why would you put Ginn in on "D" against Indiana? Or why would we have to?

The only reason I would have is to make them nervous about under-throwing a fade pattern in the red zone, since it would take about 10 seconds to go 100 yards the other way.

I remember the cooler weather comment from JT earlier in the year, but I'm for letting Teddy develop some rhythm on offense and special teams before putting more on his plate during practice.

I think letting him cover Santonio during practice would help him on both sides of the ball.

we don't have a ton of depth at corner if they force us into a dime package (tho we haven't really used that this year, IIRC).

I would only think it was a decent idea if Ginn had been getting somne reps at DB sparingly thru out the season during practice. Otherwise, it would be a shaky plan.

Good call BB. I'm sure we all recall that it was in the red-zone that Chris Gamble was first used at corner.

With Teddy's size, you have to wonder about utilizing him anywhere else; or even in short-yardage red-zone for that matter. If I were an opposing oc/hc, I'd run a power sweep right at him. Oh wait, OSU has those lb's. Ok, I've got it; I'd run a TE into his zone. Oh wait, Whittner/Salley would eat my TE's ribs for dinner. Ok, I've got it; .... .... .... hold on... I'll get back to you...

I seem to remember JT saying at one point that TG's role early on as a defensive player would be a one-on-one situation on the goal line with the other team's best reciever. Could it be that Heacock and Tress believe that he will match-up well with Hardy in that type of situation? Or maybe better than Youbouty or Jenkins. Isn't TG taller than either of those two?

No, they are both 6'1, and he is listed at 6'0". Plus Teddy didn't have the best vertical when he got to OSU (no idea how he compares now after a year in the system).
Hardy is tall and physical. That's what makes him so good. I want some one who is strong on him in the red zone. Maybe even Hawk! :box:
if you want someone who matches up, I wouldn't go with Hawk, who is the same height as our CBs (6'1"). Brandon Mitchell is an solid, experienced nickelback (and safety), and is 6'3".

Iowa gave him 200 yds and a score. I think we have a much better defense, and even if we have the same performance they only put up 21 on Iowa.
