WR Ted Ginn, Jr. (Official Thread)

boston had 8 blockers in addition to himself on the field against pitt for that return. he was untouched too if i recall correctly.

i won either a 12 or a case of guiness off of a pitt alum on that game.

ginn will score td's at least 5 out of the 7 ways this season, count on it.

[throw a TD, run for a TD, catch a TD, return a kick for a TD, return a punt for a TD, return a fumble for a TD, and return a pick for a TD]

I don't think we go from one of the worst return teams to "taking it to the house" on a regular basis. I predict no T.G. returns for TD. I love this guys potential from everything I've read - just have a hard time predicting greatness when he hasn't played one freakin down in cfb.

I think we should get one and we are lucky if we get 2

OH MY! dude - I think you need to get off the crack pipe. I'd bet you 500 vcash bucks that doesn't happen. Make it a G if you want!!

We all hope that comes true...shiat I hope I would lose money on that bet because that means TG is tearing it up. BUT, no way NO chance, no how. Not going to happen.

Let's be realistic here - he hasn't played one freakin down yet. come on.

Dude, I think you are way low, and Biatch is high. My guess is he'll find a way to score, using 4 of the above methods. If anything, Biatch is closer to the truth, I think Ginn is a pure playmaker, and I would bet that *if* he is returning punts and kicks all year, he will return at least one of each to the house.

Yeah... get the ball in the kids hands... see what happens... you can also imagine that they've been redoubling the return team work after how bad it was last year.

Fair enough.
This is how I see it:

[throw a TD - I just don't think this is going to happen, probably the most unlikey on the list.
run for a TD - I also think this unlikey. Only chance is on a reverse really cause he isn't lining up as a TB. But I don't think they try this play very often.
catch a TD - possible, I'm not sure how probable. I say not likey based ONLY on what I perceive will be his lack of opportunity at WR throughout the year, NOT his skill level (which is sick!!)
return a kick for a TD - very possible if he is our return man
return a punt for a TD - again possible. Do we know yet if he is the starting PR or KR ?
return a fumble for a TD - kind of a luck think...have to be in the right place at the right time. I think no based on playing time this year
and return a pick for a TD - possible if he plays a lot on D this year. this isn't as easy as we think though.

I see it as 3 possiblities. I say one happens, maybe 2 if fortune is shining on us. <!-- / message -->

See... I think of this as the second most likely way after PR... yes.. on a reverse... or at least something like that...

I thought of it like this:

How many reverses will they run this year? I have no idea how many they ran last year or the year before - I'm just guessing here - but I'd say no more than 1 per game (i think that is high).

let's say they run one every game this year that is 11 times(do we play 11 games?!?!?).

Of those 11 how many do you think will be run with TD lined up as a WR? My guess is, if he is that good and assuming they bring him in on offense for "special play", I'd say half. So I'm going to say 5 times.

Out of 5 reverse attempts throughout the year for TG - I just don't think the odds are that high he takes it to the house. A lot depends of course on circumstance and other factors.

Simply from an odds standpoint - I just don't see it. Of course you could argue the #'s ... like I said... I'm just guessing and throwin out #'s I THINK are accurate.

Well... that depends on who you've got to run reverses with..

Obviously, it a gimmick play... but think of it this way.

More agile offensive line... if we don't see a few more screens and reverses I'm goign to be disappointed.

Second, you've got 2 players to actually scare you with a reverse now.. with Ginn and Holmes... They used to run some okay reverses with Gamble... but he wasn't that good at it...

Third... if they want to get him the ball, its the easiest way....

Also... if they give it to him on a WR screen... and he takes it to the house, we're going to bust out the tape to make sure it wasn't a lateral, so I can be 'right' about him getting a rushing td...

HA HA. okay. I prefer the pass go forward though so we don't have the ol' fumble possiblity.

good stuff.

Keep in mind that in the offseason we have switched our kick coverage up. we have changed and added a faster and more athletic return team on the field (removed o linemen for dends, lbs and tes). I believe this was done in the spring to possibly give ginn more downfield blcckers if he gets a crease.

Well... Whoever's on the return team... the first thing they need to do is keep the gunners off the return man... they SUCKED at that last year...

Do you people actually believe we'll see a screen pass implemented in the O? I would love to, but like BuckStocks said, I've been waiting for that all my life....I'll believe it when I see it.

Believe it?

Not really...

But here's what I do believe-

The dynamic of the running game is going to change (I sort of view the Screen as part of the Running Game... a draw play on acid if you will). At the beginning of '02, a friend of mine and I mostly were worried about that season based on the O-Line... We were sort of trying to figure out how it was that it was going to get any better after losing Bentley and that idiot Walter... and seeing kind of limited players replacing them... So... Post MoC, Post MNC we sort of chalked the whole thing up to beind a 'unit cohesiveness issue.' Then about halfway through '03, we kind of came back to the original premise... without a supremely talented back... who excelled behind of a straight ahead blocking line... which was all those guys could really do... we were going to have a tough go of things running the ball in a sort of one dimensional way...

So... now you have... not necesarily a smaller (Lighter yes), but certainly a more mobile group up front... so you have to think that you're looking at a case that to maximize the mobility advantage, Tressel is going to look to run more to the outside... and do some things like screens and and end around or two in addtion to pulling more and what not... I'm not saying make the running game gimmicky.. but at least be able to show that you can be effective running the ball the in different ways than smashing right into that same linebacker we can get a body on every single play...

At any rate... I really don't know how the running game is going to change, only that its got to... or else you might as weel fatten the O-line we have now into straight ahed road graders if you're not going to adjust.
