Future weighs heavily on Holmes’ mind

TEMPE, Ariz. — Ohio State junior wide receiver Santonio Holmes said on Thursday that he has not decided yet if he will make himself eligible for the NFL draft.
But probably a poor review of his draft chances by NFL scouts is the only compelling reason the Buckeyes’ top passer catcher could find to return. He was red-shirted as a freshman, so he has already spent four years in Columbus.
He has two children with his girlfriend and was raised by his mother in a small two-bedroom home.
All of those factors will enter into his thinking.
“It’s going to be sometime after (the Fiesta Bowl),” Holmes said. “I want to just think the whole thing through, evaluate the situation and don’t jump out there too fast.
“I really would like to take care of my family, my mom. A lot is weighing on my shoulders right now. How am I going to help change my mom’s life, how can I make things better for her?”
Holmes has 48 catches for 853 yards and 10 touchdowns this season.
IMO he is gone...he has done his time and for that i am grateful but he has a family to support it is the right decision for himillinoisbuckeye said:How many people believed that Mike Doss would leave before his senior season? Was that a surprise move and do you think it could set the tone for Holmes to come back? I would love to hear "I'm coming back to win a National Title" come out of his mouth....
