High tenders for Santonio, Cro; no LT cut in sight
Jets Blog

The Jets don't want receiver Santonio Holmes or cornerback Antonio Cromartie going anywhere.
That much is obvious after the team yesterday gave Holmes and Cromartie the highest possible qualifying offers -- a first- and third-round tender -- which will most likely keep both players with the Jets if they indeed become restricted free agents.
But these tenders could be rendered meaningless because the expiring Collective Bargaining Agreement and looming lockout will play havoc with free agency. It is unclear what the rules for five-year veterans like Holmes and Cromartie would be under a new labor deal.

STAYING IN GREEN: Though the looming lockout puts their status in doubt, the Jets took a step yesterday toward retaining wideout Santonio Holmes (above) and cornerback Antonio Cromartie by giving the restricted free agents the highest possible qualifying offer.
If the NFL and the NFL Players Association agree to play the 2011 season under the rules of the old CBA, which is not likely to happen, the tenders would remain in effect. In that case, any team interested in signing Holmes or Cromartie would have to relinquish a first and a third-round draft pick, a high price that essentially ensures Holmes and Cromartie will return to the Jets.
