WR Roy Hall (Official Thread)

I really like the option of having Hall at Tight End then possibly moving him in motion to a reciever side. It would almost gaurantee a linebacker being on him. Especially if Santonio/Ginn are both on the field not to mention gonzo. If we don't do well on offense this year I give up hope in our offensive coordination because the options and weapons we have are straight nasty. I'd put them right up there with USC.

Hall at TE would give the O the threat I had hoped for with Irizarry.

Imagine Hall, Gonzo, Ginn, Holmes, and Wells squared. Other than the likelihood of Holmes 'early' departure after this season they - and whoever the QB is - will all be around for TWO more years. That is very unusual at the skill positions.

One of the few catches Hall had, he got ran down from behind by a LB I think, or maybe even a DE...not good for a WR. Conversely, his speed would be exceptional for a TE, and he has shown that he can make the catch...plus, at 6'3", 230, he can easily put on 20 more pounds (have you seen the way he's built already?).

You could be right, but he never should've be caught...I think he originally had a full step or two on the guy and was caught fairly quickly.

OK, I just went and found which play that was. It was at Purdue, and he was caught from behind by #59, Stanford Keglar, who is a LB. Here's a clip of the last part of the play (right-click and save). Note that Gonzo missed the block on Keglar which would've allowed Hall to score easily...I think he was trying not to commit a block-in-the-back foul. Anyway, Hall didn't exactly display WR speed there, but it would be more acceptable from a TE.

Hall obviosly isn't the fastest WR on our roster, but its not like he was chased down by a 250 pound monster LB. The guy that chased him down was listed at 229...Either way, being fast isn't a requirement for being a good reciever. Also, I've never been very impressed with him as a blocker...

he probably wants to be the next david boston, but i don't think he has the speed for that. even if he did, he will have a heck of a time getting past gonzo in the rotation. no way he gets past holmes or ginn. as good a hands as he has, if he can make the te transition he'd be a fool not to.

as others have noted. the thought of him as a te receiving... wow..

A LB is a LB, and a WR is a WR, period. A WR with a 2-3 yard lead should never get caught from behind by a LB under any cricumstances, ever.

I think Hall would do a decent job at TE... but is he enough of a threat as a receiving TE? I mean despite my loathing of Hamby's stockpile of false start penalties... he's got to be a better blocker than Hall and is a pretty good receiving TE (underused, IMO, perhaps b/c he moves early so much). To me, Hall could be a good receiving TE but might let the D know we're passing most of the time he is in teh formation, as opposed to a better blocking TE that can catch (Hamby, Frost, etc).

He's about the same size as Irizarry was, and I don't think Irizarry's size was much of a consideration when the staff had planned to use Irizarry.
