WR Roy Hall (Official Thread)

I think the Colt's are Buckeye fans. They got 3. Great news!!! And good luck Roy!

It's almost uncanny how many Buckeyes the Colts draft. Being from Syracuse, i keep track of some of their players, and it seems like half of the Colts rosters are either tOSU or SU alum.

I really think that Roy is going to do well in Indy. He and Gonzo both are going to thrive considering that Peyton Manning is their QB, and they spread the ball around alot.

I can't imagine a better shot for Roy than this. Indy has the best QB in the leauge and they love to throw the ball all over the place with 3 and 4 WR sets. He's going to get a legit shot at not only making an NFL roster, but contributing on the field early in his career. Not many people would have predicited that before his workouts after last season(myself included), congrats to Roy.

Overheard: Roy Hall

"It makes that transition a lot easier, to be there with a couple of people you're comfortable with. You don't have to look around the locker room in awe of Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison all the time." Former Ohio State receiver Roy Hall, after being drafted by the Super Bowl champion Indianapolis Colts, who also selected Hall's former OSU teammates Anthony Gonzalez and Quinn Pitcock.

Congrats to Roy. I'm hoping he's able to pull a Drew Carter in the NFL. He never really got into the mix at OSU but if he can stay healthy...I think he can do some great things. By the way, maybe Tony Dungy just appreciates Buckeyes because he knows what great young men JT turns out. From what I've read about Dungy, he's an amazing guy and cares about character and values. The guys that make it 4 or 5 years under Tress typically have their heads on straight by the time they leave! Go Bucks! And since my Browns never go anywhere...Go Colts!

ALL ABOUT TEAM
By John Oehser - Colts.com
Fifth-Round Selection Hall Emphasizes Team over Statistics

What Dungy said the Colts have in Hall ? and what he showed in the recent rookie camp at the Colts? practice facility ? is a player who ?can catch the ball.?

?He?s a big guy,? Dungy said. ?He can surely get deep. You saw that in this camp. I think he?s going to be a good special teams player. That?s one thing we haven?t really had from our wide receivers, a lot of special teams play.

?That?s an element that we don?t have. That?s what you?re always looking for, someone who can bring just one element that maybe you?re missing.?

Ohio State Head Coach Jim Tressel approached Hall several times during his career, concerned he might be considering transferring.

Hall said that was an option he never wanted to consider.

?You have to understand what it takes to be a successful team,? Hall said. ?With that, sometimes you have to swallow your pride and use your ego, so to speak, so you can be successful as a team. For me, I had to humble myself and understand there was nothing that I was doing that was putting me in the position I was in.

?When you have an Anthony Gonzalez, a Teddy Ginn, a Santonio Holmes ? those guys were all first-round picks and you?re playing with those guys. It?s nothing that you did, but you have to understand that they?re the ?go-tos.?

?You do everything you have to do to contribute to the team. In my case, it ranged anywhere from blocking and knocking somebody?s head off to returning kicks on special teams to catching passes on third and short.

?I just kind of found my niche and was able to deal with that adversity.?

Colts find versatility in other Buckeyes receiver
MICHAEL MAROT
Associated Press

Some believe he is big enough and strong enough to play tight end where the Colts already have three established veterans in Dallas Clark, Ben Utecht and Bryan Fletcher.

But first, the Colts will try Hall as a pure wideout.

"Right now we're zeroed in on getting him to play receiver," Dungy said. "If he plays the slot, he could be a lot like Dallas Clark."

In this offense, there's really not much difference between what Clark does and what Hall could. The Colts' usual game plan calls for either two tight ends or three receivers, and with Brandon Stokley missing most of last season with injuries, Clark filled in as the swingman.

Ohio State WR Hall could be a sleeper for the Colts

By Carlos "Big C" Holmes

Former Ohio State wide receiver Roy Hall was undoubtedly a surprise selection for the Indianapolis Colts in the fifth-round of this year's draft, but there are those who believe he could be one of the draft's best-kept secrets.
The 6-3, 240-pound receiver caught some eyes with his performance during the team's minicamp last month and will be a player to watch in training camp.
Hall is a big, physical receiver with excellent speed, running a 4.35 in the 40-yard dash. In minicamp, Hall showed good hands, outstanding leaping ability and made good adjustments to the ball.
He was tough to jam at the line of scrimmage and gave some defenders fits.
