WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba (2022 Rose Bowl MVP, Seattle Seahawks)

JAXON SMITH-NJIGBA WILL LEAD OHIO STATE'S TRUE FRESHMAN RECEIVERS IN RECEPTIONS AND YARDS

I've been a fan of the way Smith-Njigba quietly goes about his business ever since he committed.

The fact insiders I trust are also bullish on the 6-foot, 196-pounder out of Rockwall, Texas has me expecting big things right out of the gate.

His versatility could also help him see more snaps than some of his peers as Brian Hartline has said he will find ways to get his best guys on the field regardless of their primary spot as an H, X or Z.

To make my prediction come true, he'll have to fend off fellow freshmen Julian Fleming, the consensus No. 1 receiver in the 2020 class, Gee Scott Jr., the country's No. 10 rated receiver and No. 16 ranked Mookie Cooper.

No doubt this one feels like a toss up between Fleming and Smith-Njigba but I'm going with my gut and rolling with Jaxon.

ANDREW: JAXON SMITH-NJIGBA WILL EMERGE AS OHIO STATE'S LEADING RECEIVER
My original bold prediction was going to be that Jaxon Smith-Njigba breaks Ohio State’s single-season receiving record. Alas, that whole COVID thing happened and I’m audibling to a slightly less bold take. I’m picking the true freshman to end the season as the Buckeyes’ leading receiver. I’m not 100 percent sure where he fits into the passing game, but it’s pretty obvious that he’s going to have some type of role early and often. He’s not as experienced as Chris Olave. He doesn’t have the hops of a Garrett Wilson, and he’s certainly not as fast as Jameson Williams. I’m overlooking all of that as I feel he’s going to put up ridiculous numbers when it matters and even more in garbage time. All hail JSN.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba is a special talent. And he has a great wide receivers coach teaching him and bringing him along in Brian Hartline so that will quicken his development. There are some very talented receivers returning for the Buckeyes this season including Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson. But there is still opportunity and Smith-Njigba will get on the field and I look for him to make some big plays.

I don't think I've ever seen a better catch at the back of the end zone. That was Cris-Carter-ball-being-thrown-away-but-he-still-catches-it good....except for a TD.

I don't Fields was actually throwing the ball away; I think he intended to do exactly what he did, i.e. put the ball where only the receiver (Jaxon Smith-Njgba) had a chance to catch it, etc.
