WR Devin Smith (National Champion)

4.42 is plenty fast and Devin is the kind of player who plays a little faster than his times too.
I think it's that very few athletes actually play at their 40 speed. Once they get on the field and have corners to get around, running their route and looking back for the ball they loose some speed. Devin is one of the few guys out there that can consistently play very close to his 40 speed.

Six WRs had faster 40s than Devin, with three other with the same time (and those three are pretty damn good WRs). And  at Funchess being the slowest of the 39 WRs who had a listed 40 time.

I hate funchess and *ichigan, but the dude is 30 lbs heavier than most of those other WR's. I would expect him to be a lot slower....and he could line up at TE and still be a match up nightmare for safeties and LB's in the NFL.

Both Waller of Georgia Tech and Green-Beckham of Missouri are taller, heavier and almost 1/4 second faster...both of them would be much better TE prospects. And most NFL safeties are faster than a 4.7 40...

Adidas rewards 3 fastest prospects

Three players who had the fast 40-yard dash times at the NFL combine in Indianapolis are $100,000 richer.

Michigan State cornerback Trae Waynes, Miami wide receiver Phillip Dorsett and West Virginia wide receiver Kevin White each came away with the prize given by Adidas after posting 4.31, 4.33 and 4.35 times, respectively, in the 40.

The three players not only wore Adidas cleats, but signed an endorsement deal with the company before running, which was a condition of the offer.

UAB wide receiver JJ Nelson ran the fastest time in the combine (4.28) and did it in Adidas cleats, but company spokesman Michael Ehrlich said Nelson didn't sign with the brand before running.

Last year, Adidas also gave out $100,000 to the player who ran the fastest 40-yard dash in its cleats, but after former Oregon State wide receiver Brandin Cooks took the money and then signed with Nike, the German shoe company modified the offer.

Adidas originally promised Porsche 911 Carrera cars to the fastest draft prospects, but had to change the deal when the NFL called attention to the fact that it conflicted with the league's General Motors sponsorship.

Not only that but Funchess doesn't have good hands, nor a complete and polished route tree. He can't create separation with speed or routes and he sure as hell has trouble catching. Why some people have him as high as they do is beyond me.
