WR Chris Olave (1st Team All B1G, 1st Team All-American, New Orleans Saints)

This makes me feel like Olave has confidence in next years qb.

Agree. Has to think there's solid potential at least.

HOLY SHIT. To reiterate, HOLY SHIT! I don't think hardly anyone saw this coming and what an enormous return for the team. Not only do you have a dominant elite WR comeback, but he's a guy that will be invaluable in teaching up all the young talent and leading them by example. While I am shocked by it, I think it's probably a smart move with D Smith, Waddle and Chase all in this draft class. Also would echo everyone above that Olave must have confidence in the QBs or else there's no way he comes back, so that is also encouraging.

On a side note, anyone thinking Hairball might renege on his contract with Olave the Wolverine killer returning? Time to go edit my 2021 prediction post.

College football's way-too-early 2021 All-America team

WR Chris Olave, Ohio State Buckeyes

Projected as one of the top receivers in the upcoming NFL draft, Olave put off pro football for another season and announced Monday he was returning to Ohio State for his senior season. The Buckeyes couldn't have picked up a better (or more talented) recruit this offseason. Olave is an elite athlete and explosive. He has been the Buckeyes' top pass-catcher each of the previous two seasons and caught seven touchdown passes in seven games in 2020.

Ranking the top 10 returning college WRs

WR-feature.jpg

1. CHRIS OLAVE, OHIO STATE

Olave was projected to be a first-round selection in the 2021 NFL Draft, but he made the surprising decision to return to school and boost his stock even higher. For the Buckeyes, this is clearly fantastic news. They are getting back one of the most, if not the most, refined route-runners in college football.

He has generated a step or more of separation on over 87% of his targets since 2019, the highest rate in the country. Against single coverage over the past two seasons, Olave has racked up 15 receptions to result in a 15-plus yard gain in which he had more than a couple of steps of separation. That trailed only Alabama's DeVonta Smith for the most in the FBS (19) and is five more than the next best Power Five receiver.

2. GARRETT WILSON, OHIO STATE

“I feel like I needed to work on some things,” Olave said last week. “So I came back to try to get in the weight room more, get a lot stronger. Turn into a complete receiver. And try to be NFL-ready Week 1 when I get to that.”

Getting stronger has been a particular point of emphasis this offseason for Olave, who is listed at 6-foot-1 and 189 pounds on Ohio State’s roster. If there’s one area of his game that can be criticized, it’s that he can be outmuscled by defenders at times and has had some issues holding on to the ball, as he had four fumbles last season, two of which were taken away by the other team.

He believes another year in the weight room with Mickey Marotti and his staff, though, will enable him to play with the strength he’ll need to maximize his potential in the NFL.

“That’s one reason why I came back. I feel like I could have gotten a lot stronger in the weight room. Try to play with more strength,” Olave said. “That’s one of the flaws I had in my game last year. But I wanted to come back, work with Coach Mick another year, compete against Garrett (Wilson) and Jameson (Williams) in the offseason. A lot of guys in Zone 6, and I feel like I could get better and be better myself more as a person.”

Another reason why Olave chose to stay at Ohio State for another year, much like fellow NFL prospect Thayer Munford, was to graduate from the university. After seeing his older brothers Isiah and Josh (who also played college football) get their degrees, that’s important to Chris, too.

“Both my brothers have their degree, so I wanted to get that,” Olave said. “And just being a part of the program, I feel like is huge. I like it here.”

Just sayin': That's always a good reason to stay.....

Favorite Buckeye WR of all time

I need to see him go crazy in The Game one more time. Another 2 TD, punt block TD kind of day. Then I'll give him that title*

*Not because he hasn't earned that kind of status but because I'm a greedy bastard and my hatred for tsun is insatiable.
