The Florida Tarpons' National Indoor Football League team doesn't have an ownership group in place.

But it does have a coach. Fort Myers High School graduate Bernard Edwards has been asked to coach the Tarpons.

Edwards has already set up tryout dates of 5:30 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. Feb. 3 at Buckingham Park.
"I'm ready, I'm excited," Edwards said. "I was just off the phone with a lineman. I would really like to a build a team with a nucleus of guys who are local."

After graduating from Fort Myers, the 6-foot-5 Edwards played at Ohio State as a wide receiver.

wow. i was about to call BS because i've never even heard of him, but apperently he lead the Buckeyes in receiving in 1991 with 27 catches, and was a 4 year letter winner...

in my own defense, i turned 16 in '91 and was perhaps just a *bit* distracted what with the new found freedom and girls and all. :p

and maybe its just that i've blocked the early Cooper years out of my mind...

I remember Edwards quite well. Bernard was one of the first big name Florida recruits to sign with Ohio State. He was supposed to be the next Cris Carter (he even wore the same #2 jersey), but obviously things didn't go that way. He was one of those kids who was always poised for a break-out season, but it never quite happened. I'm glad to see that he is doing well, and is still involved in football.

I was 11 years old and in a completely different state at the time....don't feel bad, I'd never heard of him either.
