Worst Case Scenario: Split National Title?

buckeyegrad

Don't Immanentize the Eschaton
If the following (unthinkable) occurs:

A) Florida moves to #2 in the BCS and plays us in the National Championship.

B) Michigan remains #2 in the AP and plays USC in the Rose Bowl.

C) Florida somehow beats us, but by a narrow margin; Michigan destroys USC out in Pasadena.

Would we have a split national title as in 2003 with Florida winning the BCS while the AP voters put Michigan at #1?

Probably. I don't see why not.

I thought about this earlier. I don't see it happening. If somebody beats tOSU, they'll get the #1 votes.

In the past, #5 teams that have beaten #1 in the Bowl game have jumped all the way to #1. No way does a Florida that's very close to TSUN in the polls beat tOSU and not get #1.

I agree. I don't think they would split the NC between Florida who beat tOSU and scUM who lost to tOSU, but I don't think we will lose so it would be irrelevant.

no, only way i see a split nc is if scum wins over tOSU in the nc and florida wins their bowl game. in that scenario there will most certainly be a split nc. and a heck of a lot of carnage...

Honestly if we don't win I don't care. But if we lose I hope this happens, anything to screw up the BCS I'm all for.

I could be gravely mistaken here, but in the current BCS incarnation I thought that there was no way a split title could even exist this year - the whole point of creating a separate BCS championship game, winner of that is declared the outright BCS champion, end of story. However, like I said, I could be mistaken.

The AP is not part of the BCS and can vote someone else #1 in their final poll like USC a couple years ago.
