Women’s Rugby Showing Promise

This past Sunday (09/27) the Buckeyes Women’s Rugby Team traveled West to South Bend, IN to battle the Fighting Irish.
The Buckeyes were faced with similarities to the previous week when they lost to TTUN. The Fighting Irish had a full squad, while our Buckeyes only had 1 sub as they also welcomed 2 “brand” new players to the squad.
Unlike the previous week against TTUN there was no sloppy play from the beginning. Our Buckeye ladies, a rather feverishly quick-learning group, applied the focus and intensity that is simply required in this rough and tough sport. The fruits of their efforts delivered a tight score after 55 minutes of play – Notre Dame up 15-10. Things then went south. Our girls felt the fatigue that is associated with continual play. But as I mentioned OSU was short-handed from the start. ND had the benefit of fresh legs and all subs available.
The score would end with a Notre Dame victory 37-10. The last twenty points would come towards the end as our Buckeyes stood tall and fought hard.
Though a victory would have been sweet a larger picture is visible.
These young ladies are learning valuable lessons in these matches. And this is to follow instructions, execute, and comprehend technique. This often takes time – so in this process know one thing – if nothing else – our Buckeye ladies are representing the Scarlet & Gray with that enviable tradition that only The Ohio State University and their flock fully gets.
The trys for the Buckeyes were touched-down by Kaitlyn Mullins and Cyndi Campbell. While the two “brand” new players now on the Scarlet & Gray squad are Alex Barnes and Emma Dalan. Great job and welcome ladies.
Coach Joel Bonnaud is reminded through this process of resolving “good” problems of a quote by the former Florida State Football Coach – Bobby Bowden: “When you are building a program, you go through 4 stages: you lose big, you lose close, you win close, and finally start winning big”…
Nice logic indeed.
I’d like to add another quote – from the great Woody Hayes: “Nothing that comes easy is worth a dime.”
These ladies are making that turn. Look for great things to come.
