Wisconsin - possibly BCS-worthy?

After the way Wisconsin shut down the Purdue offense today, the look like a pretty decent team. They're ranked pretty low for a one-loss team in a major conference. Looking at their remaining schedule, they'll have some tough games, but they're all winnable. If they win out, their only loss would have come to scUM. With the Bucks and Wolverweenies being so strong this year, they could end up 11-1 and in THIRD place in the conference. Right now, their BCS ranking isn't all that great, but if they start getting a little love from the voters, do any of you think that they could end up contending for a spot in a BCS game? There are two extra at-large spots this year, and an undefeated OSU and two more 11-1 Big Ten teams would make a strong case for three entries by the conference into the BCS. What does everyone else think?

Wisky can't make the BCS unless they win out, a ton of teams lose, and OSU absolutely hammers Michigan, dropping them below Wisky in the polls.

All host teams earning an automatic berth in a BCS bowl game must be selected to play in one of the BCS bowls. No more than two teams from any single Conference may be selected to play in the BCS bowl games.

Wisconsin is just one of those teams this year that you keep expecting to lose...and they (almost) never do. I don't see them as going undefeated from here on out, but New Year's Day is a lock, I think.

That's a really stupid rule that no more than 2 teams in a single conference can make the bcs. What if the best 3 teams all come from the same conference. It's possible (we have the two best this year), and one wouldn't even get to play in bcs game. It's also stupid that some lame mid major gets an automatic because they play in a crappy conference and are slightly better than crappy. How often does Boise St. have to show that they are completely unworthy of playing with the big boys, and they can't beat anybody decent outside of that goofy smurf-blue field.

I think Wisconsin is pretty much locked into the Cap One Bowl regardless of what happens the rest of the way, realistically good or bad. We'll have to settle for killing another SEC poser like Tennessee. That's who it would probably be, and I think Wisconsin matches up well. Tennessee is primarily a passing team and Wisconsin features one of the best pass defenses (as well as overall defenses) and secondaries in the nation. Tennessee's defense isn't that great, and you need good balance to beat Wisconsin this year. Chalk another one up for the big ten, and likely another 3 of the top 5 bowl wins, including a national championship for Ohio State or Michigan.

I dont want to sit here and break down the numbers. however, i think if you go through the B10 with only 1 loss you better be in a bcs game. I'll leave it up to everyone else to work through the schematics, but they deserve a great bowl game if they win out.

btw, i was having this same convo with my boys at the bar today. its crazy how under the radar wisky is right now

Wisky will be 11-1 and be rewarded with an opportunity to run the ball down the throats of an SEC team in the Capital One Bowl. 12-1 and a Top-10 finish is a very good debut for Bret Bielema.
