After this weekend's attrition in the top ten, we're left with a probably top four in the polls of:

1. USC
2. LSU
3. Cal
4. Ohio State

Who do you think should be next behind those four right now? Herbie has already stated during the broadcast of the USC-UW game that he's gonna vote for Oregon despite their loss to Cal (safe to say he's not so hot on Penn State in that slot anymore ).

Then you have Wisconsin, who is undefeated but looks like anything but a top-5 team.

Boston College is also undefeated, but their win against UMass (UMass?!) was less than impressive.

Then you have the teams that lost today. Florida lost at home, which in my book is a no-no. Oklahoma lost to a bad team. WVU is coming out of the Big East, and if you wanna be in the top-5 coming out of that conference you have to roll in every game - same goes for Rutgers, who lost to the first team they played this year with a pulse. Texas has been in a precarious position all year, and the perception has been that it was only a matter of time until they lost.

After all of that, I think Florida has to be #5. I know the idea of a team losing on it's home field only dropping two spots kinda sucks, but I guess that's what happens when there are so many losses happening all around them. If you look at all the other nominees for that #5 spot, I think you'd have to say that Florida would be favored against any of them. Despite their loss today, Oregon (who also lost at home, albeit to a team that will be in the top-5) might have the best argument against that from a matchup standpoint, but I'd say that if you thought yesterday that Florida was better than them, there's no reason not to think the same thing now.

What do you think?

There is no way in hell Florida will stay in the top 5...hell, you could make a better argument for Kentucky or South Florida. At this point I'd say it will be Wisconsin.

Logically it should be someone like Florida or Oklahoma...

But realistically, it will be Wisconsin or BC.

People tend to not vote for the team that just lost this early.

Why would they? Those are both terrible losses.

To me I don't understand the "X team would probably beat Y team, so they should be ranked ahead even though they just lost to an unranked team at home" argument. I guess I just see ranking as results-oriented...I mean we all thought Florida would win today too, but they didn't. They might get back to the top 5, and eventually show they deserve to be there, but it would be ridiculous if they were there this week after tonight.

Don't be suprised if the national perception of the immortality of the SEC rears its head here and UF gets a pass for this loss and stays ahead of us. It will also help the ratings for the upcoming game to have UF as high as possible.

"Sure UF lost at home to an unranked team, but that just shows you how tough the SEC is...yadda, yadda, yadda." Get ready to hear it.

Ultimately it doesn't matter. As long as we stay undefeated we will be ahead of a 1 loss team in the BCS when all is said and done.

Why OU? They were exposed yet again as a bully. Beat up on weaklings and fold when faced with semi-decent competition.

Florida's might actually be viewed as worse actually. They lost at home to a team that was left for dead a week ago. But, while OU's QB finally looked like a freshman, I don't think Texas is going to win next week and OU should probably/maybe make the Big XII title game with one loss.

That said, the game against LSU next week for Florida just got a lot more interesting. I still think Florida can win it, and I don't think LSU is playing very well right now - this LSU team should beat Tulane by about 50, but they didn't.

I won't play the "well Wisconsin would lose to both or OU and Florida could beat Cal" card, I don't have too. I DO think that OU is about even with Wisconsin and I DO think Florida is a better team than Wisconsin. Same argument that was used against Ohio STate in 2002 when they found ways to win without being spectacular could be applied to Wisconsin right now (although the methods and results are different)...

I'll go out on a limb and my post the first five of MY Top 10 poll (this IS NOT a prediction of the actual poll), you guys can proceed to tear me to shreds if (and when) you disagree.

1. USC
Last Week: #2
Winning Conference games on the road is never easy. Even though they struggled today against a good Washington team, I still liked how they were able to get the win and that's now two big road wins so far this season. That's enough for me to spot them at #1.

2. LSU
Last Week: #1
As good as LSU has looked so far this season, no big road wins, and they have beat up on fair competition at home. A tough match-up next week against Florida, will prove just how good they really are.

3. California
Last Week: #5
A huge win on the road today against Oregon, and I continue to like them a lot. The late season match up against USC is building up to be epic if both teams can get there undefeated.

4. Florida
Last Week: #3
I know many will disagree here, but as much as I want to drop Florida for losing at Home, but watching them play I still think they are a very good Football team. Auburn has had Florida's number for the past two years... but I don't think anyone else does. I think they'll rebound next weekend at LSU and justify staying in the Top 5.

5. Ohio State
Last Week: #5
Ohio State is still a very tough decision to make in the polls. Their only credible win this season was At Washington, who they beat decisively. Other than that they have beat up on cupcakes, and have looked great doing so. Both the Offense and Defense look as good as they did at any point last year, but it's still hard to get a fix on how good they truly are against sub-par competition and the rest of the Big 10 not up to the usually high standards. If Ohio State continues to dominate every team they play for the rest of the season and win out... I can see them playing for a National Title should the pieces fall into place.
