I think it's a toss-up between A-Rod and Manny. I'd probably put my money on Manny if I had to choose one of them.

I'm with you.

Thomas had a good year last year but he's really getting up there in years and that was the first year in a coons age that he didn't miss a significant part of the season.

2006:

Thome 42 HR / 490 ABs (11.66)
Thomas 39 HR / 466 ABs (11.94)
Manny 35 HR / 449 ABs (12.83)
A-Rod 35 HR / 572 ABs (16.34)

Barring injury, The Big Hurt wins this one easily. He's still a great hitter.

I say Thomas gets 500 by the end of May/beginning of June ... at home against the Chicago White Sox.

Don't look past Adam Dunn, he has hit over 40 in every season I believe and could get up around 50 this season...

Dunn hit 46, 40, and 40 in '04, '05, and '06, respectively. He had 72 between his three seasons with the Reds from '01 - '03 (two of those at Riverfront/Cinergy). He is 27 years old, and presumably would be entering his baseball prime right now, so we might see a few 50+ seasons out of him over the next 5 years or so.

His career averages are 39 HRs per 162 games played, and as of Monday afternoon, when he hit two on Opening Day, he is exactly on 200 HRs. Provided he stays at GABP and enjoys a healthy career, Dunn should get to 500. If he is ever able to develop his pitch selection and stops striking out 190 times a season, he could even go well north of 600 HRs.
