Who needs a win more, tOSU or Wisky?

I thought I'd make a separate thread because this will probably end up being about more than just this weekends game.

Anyway, I was thinking about who needs this win more. I know a case can be made for both, I'm just interested in hearing what you guys think.

The case for Wisconsin:

Coming off a road loss, another loss could really cause things to spin out of control. After whooping up on a terrible early season schedule, two losses to the first decent opponents could really destroy any confidence this team has, and they would clearly have no momentum going into the stretch run.

Not to mention, as of 2 weeks ago Wisky had MNC aspirations. If they were to lose again, they would potentially be out of any BCS game, let alone the MNC.

On the other hand, the Buckeyes *need* a win, and they want to capitalize on the momentum from the road win at Illinois. A third conference loss would mean the Bucks could finish no better than 3rd in the B1G, and more than likely 5th or worse. Losing to Wisky could really send the Bucks into a spiral, as they have yet to suffer a really *bad* loss, being in each game in the 4th.

Thoughts? I think Wisconsin needs the win, and the Bucks are playing with nothing to lose. I think Wisky will be tight, and the Bucks loose, leading to early turnovers from Wisky and big plays from the Bucks.

Wisky, they remember 2008, when they started out on fire and ranked 8th in the nation. They lost to Michigan, then lose to the Bucks and their season spiraled out of control. Ended up 7-6. They do NOT wanna see such a promising season thrown away. Ohio State knows this is a down year and theres going to be light at the end of the tunnel sooner or later. And sure a win would be nice (very very very nice), we've had our 10 year run and better days are ahead for the program.

This cannot be a serious question. Wisconsin loses and they are 6-2 and can still end up in a Jan 1 bowl by winning their last four games and finishing 10-2. We, on the other hand, lose and we're 4-4 and even if we win our last four games to finish 8-4 we're looking at no better than the Alamo Bowl. A loss hurts us exponentially more than it does Wisconsin, so we need the win way more...

It is an interesting question. I feel like the expectations are much higher in Madison right now than ever, and usually you would say our expectations are always higher than Wisconsin's, but not this year. Wisconsin has a good chance to win the conference for a second year in a row and feel like they are becoming the team to beat in the conference. A loss here really destroys that. Losing this game really changes their season. On the flip side, if Ohio State loses they are pretty much in the same shoes they have been all year, which isn't good, but it's already been the general feeling here. So even though I understand that a loss for Ohio State destroys any chance of a New Years bowl, or even a BCS bowl, and Wisconsin can still get a great bowl at 10-2, the expectations are so different at each school right now, that not many in Columbus are going to feel like we 'lost' a chance at a great bowl game, since most didn't ever see it as a possibility. Whereas on the flip side, even though a loss won't keep Wisconsin from going 10-2, the fact that it likely loses them the conference that they all thought they would win all year really destroys their spirit. So if you ask me who the loss would hurts more, I think the answer is Wisconsin, based on what it does to their fan base and football program.

But say Ohio State does win, all of a sudden the tides turn in Columbus, and the feeling about this team will drastically change. Things will go from will we make a bowl game, which was a legit question a few weeks ago, to will we win the conference. This could go from looking like one of the worst seasons in a long time, to looking like 2004 or 2005 and a beginning to a great string of years for the Buckeyes. A win for Wisconsin doesn't have such a drastic change on their season. They already feel like they should win the conference and if they win, they will enjoy beating Ohio State for sure, but their goals and expectations won't change. So if you ask me who the win would help more, the answer is definitely Ohio State, by a lot.

Maybe the logic there doesn't make sense, but that's just how I see it in my head.

As far as looking at the Big Ten picture, whoever wins this game is looking at about the same road ahead. It will be between the winner of this game and Penn State, and both would need to beat Penn State to go to the CG, although Ohio State would also need a little help from either Illinois, Nebraska, or Wisconsin.

So as far as the Big Ten picture is concerned, this game has a little early season playoff game feel. If Illinois somehow beats Penn State, then this game all of a sudden becomes even bigger for the winner.

I think the x-factor though is the chaos that has been surrounding Ohio State over the past 10 months, and not just the football team, but how it has felt for the whole University, and even the whole city of Columbus. This city needs this win. Everyone who is able to be at or around the stadium needs to use every bit of their voice and wills to lift Ohio State to a victory.

So who needs this win more? Columbus, Ohio and The Ohio State University as a whole!

Wisconsin needs this far more. this is their big shot, before OSU recovers, possibly with a legendary JV, before UM gets back to UM caliber recruiting, before JoePa is succeeded. one could even argue before MSU improves more.

this year OSU needs it more, but this year is something to ensure for OSU, and honestly a BCS bowl against Oregon or Stanford might not be a good thing.

over the long haul, this win is much more important for bucky.

I'm guessing that's supposed to be legendary HC, since those two letters are respectively next to J and V on the keyboard. Hey, it was very early.

I cannot imagine what this team's psyche would have been had they not pulled this out. To lose at home, after fighting your guts out....it would have been a long November. But, now there will be an optimism that the young guys can feed off of. Certain plays/games define a season, and instead of remembering meltdowns in Lincoln and Columbus, they will know what it takes to come back and finish. There were enough mistakes made to keep people humble, but the way this game was won will provide a spark that this program needs.

I see the lol, and while on paper if tOSU played Stanford or Oregon, I'd say uh-oh, neither team will have seen anything close to the Silver Bullets, and just ask Oregon how that worked out for them last time.
