I voted "other" because I feel it is more general that the specific choices, mainly the watering down of the game for instant gratification (read: garnering everything to benefit home runs to bring people back from the 1994 work stoppage). This includes everything from turning a blind eye to steroids, to remodeling the ballparks to be homer-laden, to watering down the pitching with expansion (many of the teams of which can't really compete after starting the team anyway).

I also think 1994 killed the Expos, which is too bad.

That people keep asking poll questions with no way to answer them :slappy:

Edit: just kidding, it's up now.

Hey, dammit! I see an Other vote without an explanation!

Hey dammit! You just beat me with your post.

Other: preformance enchancer's affect on the game in general, which combines the '98 homerun derby with Bonds and the fiasco that was the congressional hearings, along with probably a lot of other things that I can't think of off the top of my head.

Wow! 2 references to 'instant gratification' on the first page.

I voted for the difficulty of small market teams to compete. MLB is unlike any other major professional sport in that year in and year out there are certain teams, all small market, that you know have zero chance of making the playoffs even before the season starts. That really hurts the game as a whole IMO.

I'll just comment on one other choice--the McGwire-Sosa chase in '98. While both players are frauds and have no business being in the Hall of Fame in my opinion, I don't think baseball was harmed in the long run because it generated interest in the game again after '94 and no records exist from that year, due to Bonds' inflated summer of '01.

I thought about making that an option, but wanted to force a more specific choice; since I thought that would have been an easy winner.

Whoops, well I don't pay enough attention to baseball to have a specific opinion I guess, I just root against the Yankees and wait for the Indians to fall apart at the end of the year.
