Pretty strange. Does being called Mil-ill-an-eee cause spontaneous hoodrat behavior too?

Mililani is the name of the Hawaiian town in which I live. It also is simply a portion of a chat board user name, not the name I have to carry around on a daily basis. I would indeed prefer a name that has a history, a heritage, and some sort of meaning, and not something that was cooked up by one or both of my parents because they thought it sounded cool.

Go carry your PC crusade elsewhere.

I'm aware of its origin. It's still a very unusual word for us mainland folk, just like lataranian is weird to folks outside of his culture.

Glad to hear you aren't suffering from any involuntary misbehavior from your unusual name. That can be a bear

Just what is "his culture"? So, it's only blacks who make up new names, such as Shaniqua and SirDarian? My former fiancee (local Hawaiian chick) from 16 years ago had named her daughter from a previous marriage "Deveney". When I asked her what origin it was, she told me she made it up because it sounded nice and she was sure no one else would have that name (this was pre-internet and pre-Google).

I'm confused, I thought we were supposed to take the PC stuff elsewhere? Or was that just me?

Did I say they had the market cornered on name-foolery? Ever since I can remember, parents of new babies in my hometown were trying to reinvent the wheel by misspelling the most common names.

Lataranian seems weird to me, but there's also something to be said for not being the 5th Josh on your sports team alone. I'd rather be lataranian than ed, bob, or kellen.

I owe solja an apology. Turns out that stunt of his wasn't his fault after all.
