What Sports Would You Never Miss?

ScriptOhio

Everybody is somebody else's weirdo.
I do kind of miss the NHL (probably only because Columbus has a team), however there are several other sports/competitions that if I never saw (on TV) again I would never miss. Here are 10 of them:

1. WNBA, does anyone actually watch their games on TV?

2. Professional Bowling, most boring spectator sport ever.

3. Professional Boxing, I know this isn't going to be a popular view, however I think this sport should be outlawed. I believe that any sport where the sole objective is to hit your opponent hard enough and often enough so that he/she is rendered unconscious (i.e. knocked out) should be banned. Look at all the boxers that have died or suffered permanent injury due to boxing. I know, if they did ban it in the US, the boxers would just go to another country to fight, etc.

4. Men's Gymnastics, I don't really want to watch men in leotards or tutus doing anything (including ballet). However, I like women gymnastics.

5. Men's Ice Skating, same rationale as # 4

6. Curling, I can't believe that this is an Olympic sport. However, I did see it on TV recently when I was flipping through the channels.

7. Made up competitions, Like ESPN's Battle of the Gridiron Stars. Nobody actually cares who wins; and besides, didn't an NFL player get seriously hurt participating in one these events a year or two ago?

8. Motorcycle racing in an arena over man made piles of dirt. Once you see one cyclist do a lap you have seen it all.

9. Any dog (or any other animal for that matter) show. Maybe this isn't an actual sport, but it is a competition and they do televise it. Really, how do they know if one guy's St. Bernard is better another guy's poodle?

10. Underwater Tennis; fortunately I don't think this one will ever catch on.

Yes, that would be Robert Edwards, he was a running back out of Georgia and was a first round pick of the Patriots I believe. He tore up his knee in a televised flag football game and was never the same again. He was let go by New England and latched on with the Doplhins but was never able to make an impact.

EDIT: Geez, I had no idea the damn thing almost resulted in him losing his leg all together, this is from an old news story on Espin.....

"Edwards tore up his left knee in a February 1999 charity football game that almost resulted in amputation of his leg. He capped a 3½-year comeback attempt by gaining a spot as Miami's third-down back for most of the 2002 season."

Dude, are you a figure skater? Imagine somebody like Anna Kournikova playing tennis underwater. Now, that would be some quality entertainment.
I'll tell you another competition that does not get nearly enough air time...ball room dancing. Laugh if you want, but you should see some of the outfits that those chicks wear.
As far as sports that could go away (on tv)...

1. Soccer
2. Hockey (live game is ok, but not on tv)
3. Drive, and turn left
4. NBA regular season (just air the playoffs)
5. Baseball regular season (see #4)

I like curling. I had the chance to play when I lived in Wisconsin and it it a pretty entertaining sport... there's a lot more involved in it than one would think. I've watched it on TV for the Olympics but it's not a sport that I could watch for hours.

Boxing is better in person than on TV.... I haven't watched a complete match in years.

Boxing is awesome. It is perhaps the purest example of one athlete imposing his will on his competitor that exists. As far as being knocked unconscious-most matches do not end that way and the refs try their best to avoid that. I watch boxing on HBO quite a lot, and Roy Jones getting laid out cold by Glen Johnson was the last (and one of the only) time I can remember seeing a true knockout.

Sports I can live w/out

1-soccer-don't care, can't get excited when 3 points is a lot of offense
2-Ice skating-gayest thing ever
3-hockey-soccer on ice as far as I am concerned
4-cricket-any sport that someone who is a fan cannot explain to you in under an hour, I can live w/out.

wouldn't miss WNBA -until they make the half court and naked rule changes

boxing is great, i could watch it for hours. i love to watch espins friday night fights, but i agree the best is watching it live. i'm about an hour away from Mountineer Race Track and they have a few boxing events every year its very cool!
