What other U.S. city is most comparable to Columbus?

Recently I was trying to describe what Columbus is like to a friend who had never been here (she lives in New York). My explanation was something like..it's a medium-to-large city with a huge college campus and suburbs as far as the eye can see.

I compared it to Austin, Texas.

I'd say Indianapolis-comparable population, sports crazy, same population diversity, lots of sprawling burbs', midwest. I can't really think of another good comparison.

I think the Austin comparison is most accurate. Huge college campus in the middle of the state capital. Towns are both vibrant and growing. Austin is a better run city though.

What, you don't consider IUPUI a huge college campus? Otherwise, Indianapolis is the much better comparison.
