I prefer German white wines. The best wines I have ever had are German Rhine wines. But to really enjoy them, you have to go to Germany.

And if you really had a taste for German wine, and planned a trip tp Germany, but then weren't able to go to Germany for any reason, that would have to be a disappointment of the highest order.

In Cali, wine tasting (making the proper noises, etc) is akin to going to church. Probably consume more wine than hard liquor, and probably more than beer. (Some carry-out owner told me he sells more 'red-bull' kinda stuff than brewskies)....go figure.

Enjoy the German whites, preferably a Moselle, one called Zellershwartzerkatz (sp all screwed up), fruity with a nice light taste. In the Valley where we live, a nice cold chard on the pool deck tastes pretty good on those 110* days (gets to 90* around 10:00pm). Mostly enjoy reds, preferably zinfandels, and cabs if 'gritty' zins aren't available. (I like to chew my zins). Lest anyone think I'm a wine snob:biggrin:, the wife and I buy Charles Shaw (two-buck chuck) by the case when we're alone, but bring out the 'good stuff' when we have guests, lest they find out we are barbarians.....oh yeah, I'm diabetic, so cannot consume the copious quantities of beer (3.2 beer was mother's milk at Miami U) that used to....used to buy my dates some sweet Boones Farm, and probably got farther than the guy that bought his gin or vodka. (alcohol is said to reduce or remove inhibitions if consumed in enough quantity - sometimes clothes as well).

Cheap wines are usually nasty, unless it's MD20/20 grape flavored. That Olive Garden house wine is the bees knees!! Vodka, tequila or beer for me and will only drink wine if the wife breaks out a bottle and brings me a glass.
