what has been going on here lately

it seems to me something is up on this site, and not for the better. of late i have noticed a lot of manifest disrespect on a broad and wide sweeping basis. i dont have the poetic verbage of steve to put it eloquently, but to me its getting old. this site has always been edgey and a tough nut to crack and many people have had a hard time "earning" the respect of the peers though it seems to be different lately. lately weve had more than one big flare up about people not being buckeye fans, to me the only thing that has come out of this is the lack of class of some of the people here. if youve never been lucky enough to go to a game, attended ohio state, live in the state of ohio, had the oppurtunity to take onen of woody's classes, or tressels, or you didnt listen to games while serving in the sevice etc, are you not a fan? id say no, you can still be a huge fan. another thing, the flat out disrespect towards notre dame and charlie, is he fat yes, but how many times do you have to say it, and do we need a thread int he football fourm for that purpose? the attacking of players of other teams youve never meet based on character, unacceptable. the automatic assumption that another team sucks and bashing them, unacceptable.
i could go on but i believe my point has been made, maybe im the one out of line, but the relative negativeness of this place has begun to eat at me, its not all of us, or most of us, but enough of us that rather than firing a few pms i decided to do this. piss, moan, ding me, send me hatered spewing pms i dont care, its the way i feel and deal with it.

no offense JO, but maybe I am not reading the same threads that you are, but there really doesn't seem to be any more vitriol around here lately than has been for the last couple of years.

I will give you the "Weiss is a fatass" thing has been taken to the extreme, but I would credit alot of that to NDC's overzealous behavior in the last couple of months and having to hear shit like "Give Charley Weiss a month to prepare...". Have you noticed that when CW bashing is up, there seems to be a Lllack of Llloyd bashing?

Knowing that we do have some "overly aggressive" members, who they are, and how they are is something I think we, and every visiting fan has to learn to deal with. I am not saying that it is bad to have those kind of personalities, I think it add's variety. Having said that, I will say that when a poster from an opposing team shows up, and is wearing heavy (insert teams color here) glasses.... well lets just say that there will be a little conflict.

Do we need to make an effort to be more understanding/friendly/welcoming? Of course, but this should be an all the time effort, period, not just something we do sometimes, and it should NOT ever in my opinion be translated into some PC bullshit. Never ever should it replace how you feel, say what you think or feel politely and with respect but for gods sake say it.

At least that is how I feel, for the two cents it's worth.

Golf is another sport that takes a down turn when it is this hot, also tennis.

Concerning the board issue at hand, I thought that people are nicer on the board, maybe it is just me, oh well.

IMO, I thought the Weis bashing got a little out of hand. Its one thing to critique his coaching ability and the decisions he makes on game day, but the attacks on his character are somewhat uncalled for. The man has a weight problem...so be it. If Tressel had a weight problem, would we similarly critique his coaching ability by calling him a fat bastard? I think not.

You can hate the school all you want on this board, but the personal attacks are pretty classless, IMO.

I also think that the perceived increase in aggressiveness on this board is because its the off season. People are bored, there isn't a whole lot to talk about, and we don't want to read the same shit over and over again. Thus, repeat threads, bad posts, or annoying visiting fans seem to get it especially hard.

Thats my two cents.

I disagree, on the contrary.

Weis is fat. Notre Dame fans are arrogant. Ohio State fans are arrogant. Therefore, we don't get along. Therefore, we settle it on the field. Therefore, we win, and in return (due to their loss, and sore sportsmanship) they direct personal shots on Woody and Tressel (Cheater McSweatervest, or whatever the hell it is), who have happened to win a couple of national championships, while Weis has won none. Therefore, the Fighting Irish fanbase is nothing but the Crying Eyes fanbase.

It is not a lack of respect toward ND fans. It is the recognition of those defending an ass w/ the ego and belly the size of Jabba the Hutt. The Texas fans get along on this board wondefully, even w/ the win in the Shoe.
