Welcome back, J.T.
Like I did, many Ohio State football fans rejoiced when Coach Urban Meyer announced that J.T. Barrett would start at Rutgers Saturday night.
Nothing against previous starter Cardale Jones, but the offense seemed to flow better and have that rhythm that it had much of last year when Barrett was putting up Heisman-type numbers.
Of course, now Barrett has to prove he deserves it. He brings a somewhat different skill-set to the field and with OSU lacking a true deep threat, what he brings is perfect for what OSU has.
With that, I offer up what I and the rest of tBBC staff want to see …..
Scott
A win: Always.
An easy win: Always better.
J.T. returns to form: Let’s hope Barrett does he does best, 80-plus rushing yards, 220-plus passing yards and an efficient offense.
Shutout: Let’s see the Silver Bullets finally return in full force.
Joe
Keep Carroo out of the end zone: What Leonte Carroo has done throughout his career is impressive. More than 100 receptions, with 25 percent of them resulting in points. He already has nine touchdown receptions on the year (one away from the school record), despite missing two games. Carroo is going to get his on Saturday, but the Bucks have to keep him out of the end zone.
Eli returns to the Big Apple: This is one player that Kyle Flood really wishes he had on his defense, considering the awful play from his secondary this season. With Eli returning home, Urban Meyer said this week that he expects more from his lead DB this year to prove he’s the best in the country. That takes place on Saturday with a tough assignment against the aforementioned Carroo.
Less than 150 yards rushing: Since 2000, the Scarlet Knights are 56-19 when going over the 150-yard mark on the ground. Greg Schiano instilled that toughness in this program and the Buckeyes need to take it away from the four-headed running attack of Rutgers.
Own the 4th quarter: Kyle Flood has won five games while at Rutgers when his team was trailing in the fourth quarter. One of them was last week, coming back from 25 down to win. The Buckeyes have outscored opponents 87-27 in the fourth — including three shutouts. Dominating the fourth quarter could be a must in this game.

A win: Fairly self-explanatory.
No injuries: Even more self-explanatory.
No personal foul penalties: Looking at you, Silver Bullets.
J.T. has another efficient game: Time to put the “QB controversy hand-wringing, pearl-grabbing nonsense” to rest.
WVa Buckeye
Shame them for being copy cats: Take it to them and shut up the “black out” crowd or “scarlet out” whatever they’re trying. There can be only one.
Leave no doubt J.T. is it: Changes happen all the time but usually not when it comes to a returning QB that won you a national title in games he wasn’t suppose to win. Let J.T. run the show.
Defense wins championships: Take it to them early and show them the Silver Bullets have it under control next man up or not.
Michael
Better rush defense: I know that sounds easy but I really want to see a better rush defense. Rutgers is more of a passing team but Ohio State has to do a better job at stoping the run.
A fast start: Ohio State has struggled big time in the first quarter this year. It’s been really hard to watch the start of games. It almost always ends with either zero or points or OSU losing, or both. I’d love to see them come out on fire.
Barrett to leap over a defender: He’s the only one who hasn’t done it yet LOL. Ezekiel Elliott, Jones, Braxton Miller, have all done it, its Barrett’s turn.
End it early: This might tie into a fast start but it seems every single game this year when the fourth quarter starts the other team is still in the game. There hasn’t been a fourth quarter yet where at the start you can go “This game is already over.”
Patrick

Feed Zeke the ball.
60: J.T. is finally in there and the offense needs to finally blow up.
Take the crowd out early: Even though it’s not a big stadium, the Rutgers faithful has shown in the past it can be loud. Jump out to an early lead and send them home quiet and early.
300: I’ve been asking for weeks, it’s time to get EZE 300 yards.
Young Bucks: Donte Booker and Jerome Brown will see a lot of time with the absence of Perry and Williams (for the first half), it’s time to see what these young Bucks can do.
Brandon
No injuries: As with every game, I hope both teams come out of this game with zero injuries. The Buckeyes depth has already been completely decimated by injuries and a major injury to a starter could be disastrous.
Complete game by offense: I really don’t feel like the offense has played a completely dominating game this year. I want to see the offense making plays and scoring points for all four quarters.
Better rush defense: Everyone talks about Carroo but the Scarlet Knights have three guys who are capable runners. All three of these running backs are averaging more than 5.4 yards per carry. Rutgers is averaging almost 200 yards a game on the ground and the Buckeyes are giving up a lot of yards on the ground. The Silver Bullets need to step up their rush defense or the fan base may be throwing things at their TV.
J.T. doing J.T. things: We’ve been waiting all year for the keys to be given to Barrett. J.T. needs to just play his game and take control of the offense. Be smart with the football and distribute the ball to his playmakers.
Mike
Air J.T.: Show he can throw the ball downfield to tag along with his outstanding read option game. Let’s see these fast and athletic receivers get their chance.
Stop the run: Defensive line needs to show gap discipline and be stout against the run (broken record for me).
Nothing easy: Buckeye DBs to make the Rutgers WRs earn every catch and make them pay the price if they do.
Feed the beast: Zeke needs to continue his 100 yard game streak.
No injuries: Stay healthy and hopefully get to see some of the depth chart gain much-needed experience.
J.C.
J.T. run the course and show us what we know: I am talking marching down the field often, mixing it up. I expect to see the magic we saw last year in why J.T. was in the Heisman conversation … until …
D-line step it up: Shut down Martin and anyone else attempting to plow down field.
Keep Carroo out of the end zone: And certainly from the big play too. He’s NFL ready … so let us show that so is our D-backfield. Rutgers will not be a pushover on the offensive side.
Be bold on play calling: This is the time to try new things and to shuffle the playbook and take that gamble. Let’s see a clinic in offensive creativity.
Charles
End the quarterback controversy: I’ve been wanting JT to start all season, he needs to show everyone that this was the right choice.
Improved run defense: The defense has been awful against the run, that needs to get better.
Focus on the game: Rutgers showed against MSU that it can be dangerous to good teams, OSU can’t afford to overlook the Scarlet Knights.
Mali Buckeye
Jersey? Sure… I get to experience Piscataway’s finest hospitality and its tiny stadium. Looking forward to being with Buckeye Nation.
Eli’s the guy: Stiff challenge in front of the home crowd. I expect big things.
NFS: If it happens, listen closely for a loud stream of profanity on your national television broadcast.
Early and often: Slow starts have plagued Ohio State’s offense this season, as has lack of focus on defense at the end of games.
Just touchdowns: It’s your show, let’s see you work your magic, Dr. Barrett.
