Are we done debating about Ohio State’s perceived offensive struggle?

There is no struggle if you ask me. Short week. Emotional win. First game back with some of the regulars. Not making excuses. Just being realistic.

Get it? Got it? Good.

Let’s move on. Or channeling my inner Yoda … on let’s move.

I think this is an important week for the Buckeyes.

Auburn is at LSU; Ole Miss is at Alabama; and Georgia Tech is at Notre Dame in what are huge playoff-implication games. Maybe even playoff-elimination games. Two, maybe three teams will join those already on playoff life support.

The Buckeyes have a chance to make a statement against Northern Illinois, which is 2-0, and widen the gap between them and rest of the field. And remember, the MAC just upset the SEC so this technically would be a good win.

I look for OSU to open a can of you know what. Here is what we at tBBC want to see, of course, starting with me. Hey, that kind of rhymed.

Scott
No mercy: Get up big and keep pouring it on for three quarters. Don’t let up. Let’s see 70. Then put in the subs.
Health: While the Buckeyes enjoy a plethora of depth at many positions, let’s not force Coach Meyer’s hand in that area.

Make home field an advantage

The stat man: I want to see 80 percent or better on third downs and only one or two punts while the regulars are out there. Fewer than five penalties and no more than 30 yards in penalties would be nice. Total yards should be at least the length of five football fields from end line to end line.
Huh?: Even thought it’s “only” NIU, let’s see the Shoe get loud.

Jason
Continuity: Like most of you, I want (check that, I NEED) to see the offense looking smooth and running in stride. It had choppy moments against Virginia Tech that maybe we downplayed a little too much. After watching them struggle to get the car in drive last weekend against Hawaii, are those problems real or is it just “all in good time.”
Run, Zeke, run: 20-25 carries for number 15 are preferred. Get him the ball off tackle or the isolation and trap plays in the middle. I’d like to see 150+ from Elliott.
Turnovers: They win big games. They’re also habit-forming. Keep causing turnovers and good things will continue to happen.
Braxton and Jalin: I’d like to see these two almost duel each other, trying to outdo the other in the big play “wow” factor category. Marshall is one of my favorite Buckeyes on this team. Braxton is one of my favorite Buckeyes ever. Have at it, boys!
Notoriety: Maybe if he returns a fumble or interception for a touchdown people will start talking about and realize that Joshua Perry is the heart and soul of this team and a damn fine football player. He gets no real press or recognition. So I’d like to see Perry have a pick-6 or scoop-6 to go with his customary 8-12 tackles.

Ken
Win: Don’t take NIU lightly.
No injuries: No need for explanation.
Decisiveness: Pick an offensive philosophy and stick with it.
Take the under: Get the ball underneath (patterns < 15 yards) to Thomas/Campbell/Marshall. Get them the ball and let them make plays.
Run Zeke: Jason is absolutely right. Let Ezekiel set the game tempo.

Let him set the tempo.

Charles
Consistency on offense: So far the offense has had some big plays but also some issues in both games. I would like to see a full game of a consistent offense with some nice, long drives.
Generate turnovers: The defense has come up with some big ones so far, lets keep that up.
Improvement in the kicking game: Punting is fine thanks to the Aussie, but field goals are just a nightmare right now.
Mali Buckeye
No. False. Starts: Sure, it’s probably due to some “liberal interpretation” of the rules, but the offensive team needs to do better.
Feed Zeek: Get the machine running early and then kick in the turbos afterwards.
STTD: No, you don’t need a shot for this one … but getting a kick/punt/punt block touchdown would certainly be a shot in the arm.
Marshall, Marshall, Marshall: Maybe related to the last one … it’s time for Jalin to shine.
Defensive excellence: NIU is a good team, and mirrors OSU’s game plan in many ways. Put them on their heels early and control the outcome from the first quarter.
WVa Buckeye
Ground and pound: Get them down early and then run them into the ground. I want to see the ball control and big-play capability we have grown to love since Coach Meyer has been there.
Defense wins championships: Take it to them. Secure the game with silver bullet style of play and don’t leave it to chance of the offense struggles again.
Special special teams: I think I’m repeating myself (look at last WDYWTS, yep) but I know the Buckeyes sport some of the best talent in coverage. I need to see it from the kicking now.
