This is the game thread, and it's OK to speculate here about how the recent news coverage will affect TSUN's readiness.

But the ongoing discussion of the RichRod/Barwis practice investigation is occurring in the RichRod thread in this same forum.

The mods and admins appreciate those recognizing the distinction.

I fully expect Michigan to come out galvanized by the recent weeks and bent on showing their wares as a football team. I also expect that a team from Michigan will win this one, and that one deserves a yo!

But seriously, Michigan wins but doesn't cover the spread. I say SCUM'ers by 10.

UM blows the doors off wmu. One quarterback is not enough to compensate for the severe mismatch in talent, particularly upfront. They lost one of the few talented kids on their defense to an early draft selection, and they weren't that great with him.

I say they lead this one by 3 scores later in the game. They may coast a bit or give up some garbage time yda, but this won't be close after the 3rd quarter.

Not that I'm Carnac the Magnificent and will correctly pick nine other games for profit, but if BB73 lists ten games, this is the one I'm not touching. I have zero clue as to how Michigan will come out Saturday.

I'll park my vCash somewhere else this week. Too much uncertainty here.

-Double digit points for a team with a punchers chance at an outright win.
-Based on last years numbers scUM wasn't that much better than WMU.

How much has scUM done to separate themselves this off season? Sheridan still being in the mix at QB speaks volumes without even touching on the current mess.

Yeah, they might come out and play like their hair is on fire because of the adversity but they'd still have to preserve a 14 point lead against a good passing MAC team with an experienced QB for the whole game to cover.

A) Normally its a bad idea to take chalk in the early part of the season.

B) Taking the underdog and the points gives you 2 chances to win. One they just flat out are good enough to keep it close and two, scUM comes out flat or distracted.

Laying points with scUM means they not only have to avoid any kind of distraction or let down from the controversy, they have to come out and blow a teams doors off and hold a 2 TD lead all the way through.

scUM might pull it off but taking WMU +13 isn't a terrible spot to get your money in imo.

People on here seem to have waaaayyyy too much confidence in the winning potential of a team whose players bitch to the media that their coaches make them practice too much.

I say WMU wins it and the Vulvarines lose their 3rd straight season opener. :slappy:

Could we get the over/under on 'Laces tripping over them & falling on his face before the half?

WMU, if for no other reason than that the same players shoving RR onto the subway tracks will want to further undermine him by giving less than 100%.

Looking at their depth chart, looks like Mike Williams has beat out Vlad Emilien (for now) for the starting FS spot. Jason Olesnavage (6-5, 213, 5th Sr.) handles the kicking over frosh Gibbons.

My prediction: 24-17 scUM.

Tony Gerdeman with a couple of good lines as he looks at this game in his weekly Tip Sheet.

Teams: Western Michigan at Michigan
Time (TV): 3:30 pm (ESPN2/ABC)
Interest: 5
Cheer For: Michigan

There is a large contingent of people out there who love to watch train wrecks. And those people are going to be sitting in lawn chairs down at the tracks hoping to see one here. If Michigan loses this game, things are going to go from worse to worst in Ann Arbor. Fans and administrators will only support a coach through tough times if he's winning. Because of that, this may be Rich Rodriguez?s most important game to date. Western Michigan has a very good offense with quarterback Tim Hiller, who threw for 3,725 yards and 36 touchdowns last year. Everybody talks about Michigan's offense, but it's their defense that will need to win it for them this week. The good news for Michigan's defense, obviously, is that Stevie Brown is no longer a safety and is instead playing linebacker. Of course that's "good news" like when you stop getting stabbed in the eye repeatedly and instead are now getting stabbed in the shoulder. Sweet relief, right?

In other news, this game will mark the start of the Tate Forcier Era ... or "The Forciera", as I call it. (It'll be about a four-week era.) Western Michigan is starting almost an entirely new defense, so the Wolverines should have an opportunity to score some points. Michigan is actually favored by about two touchdowns. That seems like an awful lot to me and a loss for the Wolverines shouldn't really surprise anybody - except for Michigan fans, of course.
