The story of the night here is that dozens of celebrities and European dignitaries began arriving in Durban from about lunchtime. The private jets were unexpected given flight plans in hand.
Durban is Columbus-size. The airport is brand new and the unplanned arrival of more than 100 private jets has caused chaos. The problem is not landing the aircraft. Apparently, the celebs weren't prepared to wait and just began discarding their bloody jets and walking away.
They re-opened the old airport to accommodate the stream of private jets, but landing bays are blocked at the new airport and flights are still landing right now. Yes, Paris Hilton is one of them.
I think about 1000 people or more with tickets are affected. Everything went so smooth at the new airport until today. The story continues to develop. Apparently, Johannesburg Airport has become a FIFA fan zone and some people just decided to stay there and have one helluva party.
