USA-Egypt Confederations Cup

Don't know what to expect out of the Nationals today. Egypt is a very good side (exhibit A & B: their performances against Brazil and Italy).

Hopefully we see some youth, excitement, and some fight out their by the US. I think we'll see a different set of players out there, to get an idea of what we have going into the next 12 months.

Just announced lineup.

4-4-2

-------------Guzan---------------
Spector--Onyewu--DeMerit--Bornstein
------------------------------------
Donovan--Clark--Bradley--Dempsey
---------------------------------
--------Davies--Altidore----------

No Adu?! are you kidding me? He has to be an early sub. This is one of the most creative players in the US player pool. No clue why this kid isn't getting a shot. I like the lineup from a talent point, besides the central midfield pairing. That's 2 defensive midfielders. Where's the attacking mid? Should be Adu and Bradley. There's not much experimentation in this lineup, everyone knows what they are getting with these players. Davies is the only new guy. Not really a fan, because it's time to test some more of the younger group.

I threw more vCash down on the US today. Hopefully they can get 1 of these right for me. :)

American soccer players need to grow a pair and be selfish when near the goal. This is a whole mindset. We look down upon the local kid that takes on players and scores 40 goals in his youth league. He's a ballhog.

USA needs scorers.

On a day when the US needs to score as many as possible the missed opportunities have been maddening. It could easily be 3-0, but it's only 1-0.

Well, well, it's now 3-0 USA in the 71st minute. Brazil leads Italy 3-0 in the 75th minute. If those results stand the Americans will sneak through to the semi finals.

...and he makes the other kids feel bad. Can't have that. :ohwell:

More shocking:

USA goes through to semifinals or

Clint Dempsey actually did something positive?

Still cannot believe this. One of the best sporting moments I can remember.

The shots were so long that I wasn't even concerned about advancing, just seeing the team show some heart. Unbelievable.

Never thought the US would win big AND Italy (who appear to not be as good as their 'reigning World Champions' title might suggest) would get stomped by Brazil. Everyone went perfectly. 3-0's x2.

Now Spain.

That was true - even though ESPN spent most of the broadcast saying that the winning margins for Brazil and the USA must total at least 7.

And right after the USA scored the last goal of the day to put both scores at 3-0, ESPN2 showed on their ticker that Brazil and Egypt were in position to advance.

How hard is it to figure out the tiebreakers when you have 3 days before the games to do so?

Given the hand to ball save, we got the seven points anyway!

What a great game to watch. Much improved midfield play. I didn't think it was going to be possible at the start of the day.

Well done, USA!

Unfortunately, I think both of my teams lose in the semi-finals.
