Balanced scoring won out over a one-man scoring machine as Hamilton (5-3) held off defending Division II state champion Upper Sandusky (4-4).
Hamilton’s Justin Schulteis (18 points), Kelsey Brown (17), Eric Graf (13), Ryan Butler (nine points, 12 rebounds) and Billy Allen (seven points, 12 assists, nine rebounds) more than counteracted the 36-point, four-assist effort by Ohio State-bound Jon Diebler of Upper Sandusky.
Diebler finished 15-of-36 from the field with seven rebounds and four assists.
Ohio State recruit scores 77 points in overtime win

Jon Diebler, an Ohio State basketball recruit who plays for Upper Sandusky, scored 77 points last night in a 105-100 overtime win over host Tiffin Columbian.
Diebler, a 6-foot-7 junior guard, made 22 of 42 shots from the field and 27 of 28 free throws. He made 12 of 13 free throws in overtime as Upper Sandusky (5-3) outscored Tiffin 16-10 to win a Northern Ohio League game.
At one point in the third quarter, Diebler made four threepoint baskets in 56 seconds to turn a 52-43 deficit into a 57-54 lead.
"I am the point guard, so it’s my job to get everybody involved. But they were laying off me, so I was obviously going to shoot," Diebler told the Tiffin Advertiser-Tribune. "I wasn’t really thinking about it. The shots were just falling."
Diebler’s points are the seventh highest in Ohio highschool history. It was the most points in a game since Bellaire St. John Central’s Alan Hornyak, who later starred at Ohio State, scored 86 in 1969. Dick Bogenrife of Sedalia Midway set the state record of 120 in 1953.
Diebler originally committed to Valparaiso, where his brother plays. Ohio State offered him a scholarship after his showing in last year’s state tournament. He scored 32 points in the Division II final, which Upper Sandusky won, and 29 in a semifinal.
Diebler’s game overshadowed Josh Moore’s 52 points for Tiffin. A 6-1 guard, he made 19 of 23 shots from the field and 13 of 16 free throws.
Rams, Diebler have Moore
By Dave Feltner, [email protected]
In a game which was, at times, pure playground, at times, record-setting, and, at times, top-dollar entertainment, the most basic of fundamentals proved to be the deciding factor.
Upper Sandusky's Jon Diebler and Columbian's Josh Moore offered a performance worthy of the standing ovation it received, combining to score 129 points during the Rams' historic 105-100 overtime victory over Columbian.
Diebler's 77 points are the seventh-most by an Ohio high school player, and are the most ever by a Northern Ohio League player, surpassing the 60 Shelby's Larry Siegfried hung on Galion Jan. 11, 1957.
Moore's 52 points came on 19-of-24 shooting and eclipsed Columbian's old mark of 40, set by Tony Eisenhard against Fremont Ross on Jan. 29, 1994.
Diebler's historic night included a state-record 27 free throws, on 28 tries, and the Rams connected on an amazing 90 percent (38 of 42) from the foul line.
And that's where the difference could be found after 205 points.
The Tornadoes have been struggling from the stripe (57 percent the last four games), and Friday night they were a pedestrian 25 of 43, including 2 of 6 in overtime.
"We have to foul (Diebler) toward the end of the game 'cause they're not going to give the ball to anyone else," Columbian coach Derek Lewis said.
"He did a great job; he's smooth. I don't want to be negative, because I'm not. But, our goal was to attack him, and when we attack him, and he goes four quarters and has (65) points and not one foul, to me that's not right.
He's good, but I'm not sure he's Superman.
"I'm not taking that away from him. But there's 20-some fouls called in the first half, and he doesn't have anything. He's the best basketball player in this league, and I'm not trying to take anything away from him. But, to have (55) in regulation and not one foul, to me, that is unbelievable."
Diebler's hottest stretch came in the third quarter when the Rams fell into a nine-point hole, their largest deficit in the game.
Columbian's Aaron Hurd fed Brady Decker for a bucket to give the Tornadoes a 52-43 cushion with 5:48 left in the third. Dielber answered at the 5:37 mark with one of his six 3-pointers. Over the next 56 seconds, Diebler hit three more 3's, and Alex Falk stuck a jumper.
Diebler's fourth 3-ball in 56 seconds turned into a four-point play, giving the Rams (5-3 overall, 4-2 Northern Ohio League) a 58-54 lead. Diebler had 23 points in the third quarter on 10-of-14 shooting.
"I was just out there playing," Diebler said. "I'm just happy with the win.
(Seventy-seven) points wouldn't mean a thing if we lost the game.
"I obviously shot all right today from the field and the foul line. I was going to make Tiffin guard me, and, if they were going to start doing that, I was going to start (passing). You don't really pay attention; you just worry about the score. I really wasn't thinking about it; the shots were just falling."
Moore, who had 12 rebounds, helped bring the Tornadoes (2-7, 1-4) back in the fourth quarter when he scored 15 points. Columbian trailed most of the fourth and had to foul Diebler frequently to stay in the game.
Diebler made 8 of 8 from the foul line down the stretch, but the Tornadoes had a chance to tie with a 3-pointer on regulation's final position.
Judd Lutz tracked down a long offensive rebound, dribbled behind the 3-point arc on the right wing and made a pump fake to shake a Ram defender. Lutz then flicked a 21-footer that found nothing but net to send the game into overtime tied at 89.
"Everybody's going to talk about two individuals, but there were 24 kids out there who just played their guts out," Upper Sandusky coach Keith Diebler said. "It was incredible.
"I just thought Jon grabbed the game by the jugular and took it. When we needed it, we had an answer. That's him."
Diebler's only miss from the foul line came on the first shot in overtime. He sank his next two, and the Rams never trailed in the extra session. Diebler made 12 of 13 from the free-throw line in overtime, including 6 for 6 in the final 39 seconds.
Diebler (16 rebounds) had 28 points in the first half, while Moore had 24.
Ian Mason finished with 11 points for Upper Sandusky.
Decker (13), Matt Snyder (12), Lutz (11) and Aaron Hurd (10) scored in double figures for Columbian.
"It wasn't just me; it was a team, 'cause we play together," Moore said. "We played hard, and that's what I'm so proud of our team for doing. We didn't give up; we were down by eight, but we kept fighting. It felt like we were (winning) 'cause we were so pumped up.
"Me and Jon are friends, and we talked a lot during the game. I'm so proud of him scoring 77 points. It's so cool."
The whole night was.

BUCYRUS -- The line on the floor got larger and larger -- kids from Bucyrus and Upper Sandusky getting photos and autographs.
The object of their affection? Upper Sandusky star Jon Diebler.
Diebler patiently signed autograph after autograph for fans. It was the longest time he stayed in one place all night.
"He's the best player who has ever played in (Alex Kish Gymnasium)," Bucyrus fan Barry Herschler said, a tinge of awe in his voice.
"I mean, I've seen Mike Lillo and Nate Reinking, a lot of guys. But I really think he's the best."
Herschler had a point.
Diebler more than im-pressed. But so did the rest of the Upper Sandusky Rams.
Diebler, who has already committed to play college basketball for Thad Matta at Ohio State, played just 2 1/2 quarters but the 6-foot-7 junior scored 30 points as Upper Sandusky (8-5) bounced Bucyrus, 93-39.
The Rams are hardly a one-man team. Upper made 22 of its first 34 shots and held a 54-18 lead at the half. Five Rams scored in double figures.
"We've seen that about three times this year," Upper Sandusky coach Keith Dieb-ler said of his team's balanced scoring. "We have kids that can score."
Without question, the emphasis is on Diebler. The 77-point night he had recently against Tiffin Columbian is no fluke. The Upper star can do it all: score inside, score from the perimeter, run the floor like a guard and play quick, aggressive defense.
"Jon can do anything he wants," Bucyrus coach Todd Martin said. "He is so unselfish. He had 30 points tonight and he could have scored 60 if he wanted.
"We knew that when they lost to Willard (Friday night)) they would be extremely focused tonight. We were just unlucky enough to follow the Willard game."
The Rams were bigger and more athletic than the Redmen, outrebounding the smaller Redmen, 41-17.
"This was a painful experience," Martin said. "They hit every shot they tried out there."
Upper led 44-8 ten minutes into the game and Diebler already had 19 points. Coach Diebler sat his talented son for the final four minutes of the second period and the entire fourth period, something that didn't go unnoticed by Martin.
"I want to give Keith a lot of credit," Martin said. "He was very kind to us. He could have poured it on. He is a class guy all the way."
Bucyrus guard Kyle Teynor continued his torrid shooting, hitting six threes en route to 22 points. That's 13 three-point baskets in the last two games for Teynor.
"Teynor did a very nice job," Diebler said. "We felt we did a pretty nice job of defending him. This was a great team effort. The kids wanted to come out and reestablished themselves. I think they did that.
"We have placed a great emphasis on defense and rebounding," Diebler added. "We're getting better in both areas."
Senior Aaron Wetherill added 15 points for the Rams. Ian Mason, Alex Falk and Curtis Sebenoler added 12 each.
Upper also won the reserve game, 47-45. Jeff Hope led the Redmen with 17 points and Jason Slagle added 10.
