What do all of you think are the major contributors to a university's sex appeal? Recruiting season is big right now and yet again (like I do every year), I wonder if we will lose any blue-chippers to this foundationless concept. I have listed in order what I think are six major contributors to this idea (winning excluded). Also, I'm curious as to all of your thoughts on how our Buckeyes fare in this very real battle.
1. Location- Is the city hopping? Is it young? Lots to do?
2. Weather - Is it warm? Not many players go elsewhere just to get in the cold.
3. How you score td's - simple as that...are they big gainers or 2yd. runs?
4. Swagger - Showboating and ego. the U (hilarious) imo is the queen of this. Although there is healthy swagger, most teams have the prior style.
5. Girls - the truth is, they are everywhere, but some locations seem to have the reputation to have hotter gals on average. UK cheerleaders come to mind...or SC honies (though I'll take an Ohio girl anyday)
6. Uniforms/Colors/Mascot - i vaguely remember a southern recruit from two years ago saying he was heavily considering auburn or clemson (can't remember which) because he loved the team's colors.
I think that tOSU does pretty well with this. Considering the fact that we've been fairly conservative the last five seasons with flashes of brilliance and big plays. This year we have had our fair share, but with the personnel on this team, we could have had twice as many (if not three times) big plays this year of 30 + yards imo. Our look is traditional which I like and our mascot is unique. I think kids like to say "I'm going to be a Buckeye"...it has a special luster I think. Ohio isn't much of a draw in itself, but if you actually know Columbus, you know that it's a big, clean, young and growing city. As far as swagger goes, our players for the most part are pretty modest and most of that we can accredit to JT. I like this, but on occasion I will admit that I like to see some fire. Youboty's talk before the Texas game didn't exactly pay off, but I love to see young M.Jenkins out there getting in receiver's faces. Anyways...just thought I'd share this. I always wonder up until February if one great kid goes astray to say a USC due to some of these things...and I'm pretty positive the answer will always be yes. Let'em go though...we'll be Ohio sexy in the meanwhile.
