"Uncle" Al Lewis (1924-2009)

Al Lewis, best known for hosting the popular children's TV show "The Uncle Al Show" on WCPO in Cincinnati, passed away this weekend. Lewis set the mark for longest running television show with the same host, appearing weekly from 1950-1985.

He used to let me hunt on his property. His wife Captain Wendy? is still alive. He had some of the old stuff from his show in the barn. Nice old guy. RIP.

I think most of Cincinnati residents were on his show at some point. I remember they used blue screens for certain parts, well of course it was in the early days of using it so you would have someone with the wrong color on and they were end up blending into the background and you would end up with a floating head.

Not from Cincy, but I was on the show when I was about 4 or 5. Don't really remember it at all, though.

Uncle Al and Captain Kangaroo. Ah, those were the days........

My dad was on the show back in the early 50's and I grew up eating Mama's brand cookies & drinking Barq's cream soda specifically because of that show.
