Unauthorized access gained to Ohio University alumni records
May 01, 2006 10:50 PM

ATHENS, Ohio -- Ohio University officials say the FBI is investigating two thefts of data at the university.

The university says someone gained unauthorized access to records in a computer system supporting the alumni relations department. The data includes biographical information for more than 300-thousand people and organizations, including 137-thousand Social Security numbers.

The breach did not involve credit card or bank account information.

Three days before that breach was discovered, the FBI told the university's small business incubator that someone had gained unauthorized access to e-mails and patent and intellectual property files.

The university is contacting people whose information was stored in the alumni relations system and has set up a data theft Web site and hot line.

I've received countless emails regarding this topic... If you've ever used OU's acorn or oak email system it is no surprise that their system was hacked... behind the times is an understatement... I guess the world will soon have my SS# (joy:( )...
