Two Former Baseball Players to be Inducted into OSU Hall of Fame

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Former Ohio State baseball players Ron Nischwitz and Alex Eckelman are among a group of 12 former Buckeye student-athletes who will be inducted into the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame the weekend of Sept. 15-16. The class will be officially inducted in two separate ceremonies Sept. 15 and introduced to the public at halftime of the Cincinnati-Ohio State football in Ohio Stadium the following day.
Nischwitz was a second team All-American as a pitcher, the same year he earned All-Big Ten accolades ... He was a two-time letterwinner (1957-58) and led Ohio State in strikeouts in both 1957 (57) and 1958 (82). Nischwitz also had a team-high innings pitched in 1957 (47.0) and 1958 (81.1). He ranks in the Top 15 for wins in a season and season earned-run average.
Eckelman was a four-time letterwinner who was a two-time first team All-Big Ten selection (1996, '97). He was member of two Big Ten regular-season championship teams (1994, '95) and three Big Ten tournament career in the Top 10 in program history in career batting average (.367), runs batted in (156), at-bats (657), hits (241), doubles (43), home runs (34) and runs scored (172). He led the Buckeyes in batting average, hits, at-bats and runs scored in 1996. His .439 batting average that season was the highest OSU batting average in 36 years and ranks second in program history.
Joining Nitschwitz and Eckelman in the 2006 class are Kevin Akins (track and field), Adam DiSabato (wrestling), Eddie George (football), Kate Hedman (swimming), Annette Kraml (rifle), Donica Merriman (track), Ted Provost (football), Kip Simons (gymnastics), Patricia Szelle (fencing) and Lindsey Vagades (gymnastics).
