Hang on Sloopy
I am eating more and more turkey burger of late. It is not strictly for the health benefits, I also enjoy the taste and the texture is definitely superior.

Anyone have any other food choices that they are trying that the rest of us need to know about?

Keebler's Scooby-Doo Honey graham cracker snacks. (They're shaped like dog bones.) My wife started buying them for my son, and now I'm hooked on them like a junkie on heroin. They're very tasty...

There's a new beverage on the market here lately called beer. I think with the right marketing campaign it might catch on. If you get the chance you should try it.

Funny you should mention beer for health benefits, after stomach surgery, the doctor suggested that my grandfather drink beer to put on some of the weight that he had lost, (he did not drink beer before.) He tried it and it worked.

Mix salsa in with the turkey burger meat and then grill to perfection. That is a mean burger.

I've been getting some serious acid reflux as of late, and I'm only 21 so something isn't right. So I'm gonna try to stop eating everything that gives me heartburn. My mom's cooking never gives me heartburn regardless of how spicy she makes it. Since she's vegetarian, the only big difference between home cookin' and what I get anywhere else is the lack of meat, so that might be it. I'm gonna see if no meat for a few weeks does the trick. I'd rather not spend my money on Nexium or some other prescription when a simple change of diet is all that is necessary (and more healthy, too).

If you like the turkey burgers, you would probably also like some of the veggie burgers out there. One of my favorites is the spicy black bean (I think it's made by Gardenburger). I love it with jack cheese and guacamole. There are also recipes out there to make your own.

I'm gonna have to try that sometime. I've recently taken a liking to guacamole. Never tried it before a few weeks ago and I'm hooked now. I don't understand how something that looks like baby shit can taste so good. Do you make your own or do you buy it somewhere? Do they even sell premade guacamole?

You can get it premade at the grocery, but oftentimes (esp. in Ohio!) it's not that great. We usually buy a few avacados and then get a few packages of guacamole mix (you can get this in the produce section). There are also some great guac recipes out there. I can forward some to you if you're interested.

I'm hooked on it as well. One of my favs!

I love guacamole. We make our own, though you can buy it premade. If you're making your own and don't plan on eating it all at one sitting, I suggest adding lime juice to slow down the darkening effect that oxygen has on the avacado. Sometimes, I'll put the leftover guac in a glass sealable dish and squeeze some fresh lime juice over the top - it really helps preserve the bright green color.

To make guac, we mash up two avacados and add garlic, cumin, chili powder, salt, lime juice and diced tomatoes. Good stuff.

As far as turkey burgers (or any burgers for that matter) I've been adding instant onion soup mix to the meat and mixing it up. Makes for a tasty burger (and it's easy). I'll have to try the salsa trick - that sounds good.
