2004 was the first of the surprise ass beatings. They came out n favored for that one too iirc. if not by the actual Vegas line, they were very much seen as the better team.

Tress couldn’t break 50 if you spotted him 30 but that was a savage ass beating by Tressel standards.

It was gloriously fun.
Doesn't qualify as an "ass beating" but the 2005 game has to be near the top of "Rip Their Hearts Out" list. At home, they basically had the game won, then the crazy Troy to Gonzo broken play circus catch set up the winning TD in the final minute. Makes my heart go all aflutter just thinking about it!

The 04-06 trifecta was awesome.

Ohio State was down, 21-12, with 7:49 left in the game. The Buckeyes scored a quick TD to make it 21-19 with 6:40 left in the game.

The final drive was a lot more than just The Catch - it went 88 yards in 12 plays, with the final TD coming with just 24 seconds left on the clock. Epic win.

I need to rewatch this (oh when will I find the time). My memory makes me think we dicked around a lot longer than we should have and finally turned it on in the 4th.

1973 and I was an assistant training and operations officer for a reserve brigade in Columbus. OIC was a colonel and Va Tech guy who had moved to Columbus from DC to take this plum command. One of my tasks was to put the training schedule together. We normally drilled on the third weekend of the month except for November, so I set the November drill for the second week. The colonel called me in and asked me to change the schedule, "Put it back to the third weekend where it belongs."

"I can do that, Sir, but half the headquarters won't be here."

"What! Why?"

I told him and he scoffed, "Nonsense, my school plays Virginia every year, but we don't put that game above everything else. We'll drill on the third weekend and they'll show up if they know what's good for them."

I tried to argue him out of it, even suggested he ask the sergeant major, but he wouldn't budge."

So there we were on the third Saturday; the CO, the XO, the Sgt Major, the S/3, and me and maybe two dozen enlisted men. The phones were ringing and each call was either a wife claiming her husband was too sick to come to the phone, or a soldier coughing and wheezing, "Can't come in, gotta bad cold."

The colonel gave up at lunchtime and sent us all home. I got back in time to see the kickoff. Next year we drilled on the second weekend of November.
I was in the Roanoke area so a heavy Va Tech area so it's fun you mention Tech. That said, that's exactly why I was getting starred at for my punt return outburst. They thought they knew rivalries but clearly they don't haha.

I remember when Pittman bounced outside from the pile to score the winning TD...almost punched a hole in the ceiling, and I have a lofted ceiling.

The two traitors social distancing themselves from Pittman is just a bonus.

I had this photo from a different angle as my workstation wallpaper at work for about two months after that game because I had a couple co-workers who were scUM with whom I interacted with several times a day.

Turns Out, Buckeye Fans Aren’t Interested In Losing To Michigan, Even Hypothetically

19-11-30-FB-2022-TO.jpg

So there I was, just minding my own business on a Friday afternoon, taking part in a YouTube session talking Ohio State football with Mark Rogers of MarkRogersTV, Steve Helwagen of Bucknuts, and Kevin Noon of Buckeye Grove, when I happened to tweet out this innocent little Twitter poll.

“Buckeye fans, would you accept a loss right now to Michigan this year if it meant that the season would take place normally with no alterations?”

With the uncertain nature of the coronavirus over the next few months, there are already discussions about the impact that this could have on the college football season.

Athletic directors around the country are losing sleep over the possibilities.

Buckeye fans, however, are willing to roll the dice.

I thought in this current era of giving and brotherhood, I would ask this simple little question and allow the people to show their compassion to the human race.

Even if it was just hypothetical.

It turns out, however, the even hypothetically, Ohio State fans don’t really have any compassion when it comes to Michigan.

And as was replied to me on our message board, “There are no stupid questions, just stupid people with questions.”

Just the thought of losing to Michigan pretty much makes any scenario a no go, as evidenced by the 3,500 or so fans taking part in the poll below, with around 90% of them saying, “No thanks.”
