Have you seen these on the highway? We just drove by a semi with metal panels between the front and back set of wheels, probably to make crashes safer for cars.

These make a lot of sense and look affordable - one long metal panel on each side - but a quick google search only turns up the outcry to standardize them.
 
They're starting to put these on to restrict wind from getting underneath the trailer and creating drag on the rear wheels. They're supposed to improve fuel mileage on trucks, but I don't know how effective they really are.
