"During the October 6, 2007 game against the University of Florida, CBS recorded 129.8 decibels"

Folks, I went to that game, and I had temporary hearing loss for a few hours, a ringing in my ears that lasted until I finally went to sleep that night.

These decibel readings are always skewed.

Yeah. Prolly. All I know is that so many times it was so damn loud that you could not hear the person next to you trying to shout something at you. You only got it if you could read lips. To me, that is loud. My ears hurt, were continuously ringing, and I had temporary partial hearing loss.

Now, it does not get that way all of the time, but when it does, it is brutal. I can only imagine what it is like on the field trying to make an audible.

On the FSU board most of the Noles admitted that the Swamp was the loudest that they had ever seen. One Nole went to The Game and said that your stadium was the loudest that he had heard. Congrats for that. I only know that the Swamp and Death Valley are ridiculous venues for loudness. I hope to visit y'all in person, see the "i" being dotted and experience your place live. Sounds awesome. :banger:

Same thing happened to me in '95 during the ND game. I was in C-deck.

Fact correction: Listing Tennessee's stadium as largest in the SEC and thrid largest in America would be wrong. Michigan, Penn State and Ohio Stadium are larger. Neyland would be the 4th largest in the Big 10.

tOSU had a higher average for football in 2007, but Neyland has a larger capacity.

WOW, maybe down in A deck, ofrwith the echos in B.....but C?? That mustve been loud as hell!

C and A are equally loud. With B deck for some reason, the noise is significantly muffled. It's the reason I stay the hell away from B (when I have a choice).

BTW - there are plenty of games in the shoe when the crowd is just plain lame. But it's hard to beat for a big game. I went to The Game in 2006 and the place was downright spooky

Neyland used to have a capacity of 104,079, but additions of club seats on the East side in 2006 reduced the official capacity to 102,037. Club seats are being added to the West side, and the revised capacity is yet to be announced, but will probably be slightly over 100,000.

Their record crowd was 109,061 for Florida in 2004. I'd venture to say that Neyland could still squeeze in more folks than the 'Shoe (probably about 107K), but that won't be the case after the West Side club seats are added.
