tOSU Recruiting Whammies

I think well be fine. Trust the coaches. Everyone was so worried about our Oline coming into this year, and Warriner did a great job with them and were in the NC. Johnson has dealt with losing Spence for the entire year, and used Miller and Frazier very well. People were even worrying bout Washington coming into this year as well. The cream always rises to the top, and our staff has and will continue to recruit well. I'm not holding much hope for Carter but you never know.
Quality, explosive interior Defensive Linemen are hard to come by and hard to develop. Honestly we aren't fine by the staffs desperate push to fill the position with 2-3 guys. There hasn't been talk about guys waiting in the wings either. DT is the most important position on the field because if you can't control the line of scrimmage, then you'll struggle to stop the run and won't apply pressure to the QB. Getting Beckner is a huge priority. Pushing back into the game for McLean may be the second best option if Beckner falls through.

I really expected defensive linemen will be flocking to ohio state with Johnson hiring. Very disappointing results so far. I can't believe how casual this stuff has been about recruiting the biggies in the middle. With Urban coming from the SEC, I expected him to make that the highest priority every year. What I am seeing instead is they put their eggs in one or two baskets and then, they are caught off gard a la Tressell. Losing their two top targets in one week hurts. I just hope they find someone else somewhere.

Warriner is a brick when it comes to recruiting. It should be very obvious by now if you follow that kind of stuff.

Urban needs to step up his game, right? Personally, I'll trust the coaches.

We have a couple of projects right now on the interior. They might turn out ok for the big 10 but you will not dominate anyone in the big time level. Adding two monsters in the middle should have been priority one this year and last.

I'm sorry they aren't piling them up to match your assumptions.

That's as laughable as it is fictional.

As is this. They had 1-2 baskets for DT huh?

So they're signing 0 DTs and will not be bringing in any others on visits?

Larry Johnson* And the legend of Larry Johnson has brought in Jashon Cornell (who listed him as nearly the sole factor for coming here), Dre'Mont Jones (4 star DL who just tore it up this week in the Army AA game practices), Josh Alabi (underrated DT who was being pursued hard by MSU/scUM but came here), and Landers (late offer who blew up but a great player). That is already a very good recruiting class at DL. We just want one more interior guy to make sure we are set down the road. And last year, he also brought in Slade basically by himself.

Alright, I'll climb back in off the ledge and conceptualize it as Gallimore/Wilkins would not have looked at tOSU without LJSR, and they were probably afraid of all the competition so went elsewhere. Feeling better already.

Your comments don't really deserve a reply. But I will reply to you because I am nice. Look it is simple. They have not brought in SEC type interior linemen that dominate the middle and make your DE's that much better and your LB's tasks that much.easier. If they don't address this in 15, they will have to go the juco route very soon.

Sorry this was supposed to be a reply to jwinslow.

You can make an argument that they didn't move fast enough on Elijah Daniel, though he would seem to qualify for the backhand slap of using him to win the b1g but not big time games.

They chased Wilkins and Gallimore hard for ages. Same with Beckner. As fans we obviously coveted them, but 2 of the 3 never came close to favoring osu and the third was always a dogfight with Oklahoma (who is typically beastly when it comes to recruiting bigs). One of the 2 uphill battles is visiting on the 23rd.

While doing so they kept looking for new guys and found a stud in Landers.

This bears no similarity to tressel style recruiting. Except tressel usually landed one or two underappreciated recruits that went on to become absolute stalwarts like Larimore.

Hello, if Washington leaves we only have 3 true DT's left on the roster (Schutt, Hill, Munger) not including incoming freshmen. Carter is moving on and Dylan Thompson has broke his patella twice and is undersized. Only other guy i could see moving inside is Sprinkle. That gives us 4 guys with not much experience and leaves us with little depth. It is our most important need, especially with as easy as it is to get rolled up on, on the interior line. But having 3-4 capable bodies at a position that requires 2 and rotation, is not good.

well I mean.. we might as well pack it in and fold the team, fire Urban, LJ Sr, and just move on from football because clearly Urban's lost it in recruiting and we wont be able to field a Defensive line that could compete with the MIGHTY SEC

:slappy: recruiting makes me laugh

Then try posting "nice" things instead of trashing OSU's recruits as being mediocre kids incapable of winning big time games.

This guy can come in and start from day one. He is a perfect replacement to Bennett, except that he is bigger, faster, quicker, and more explosive. Give me this guy, and I will be very happy with the class.
Or the above silliness. Bennett is a projected first round pick, yet a high school senior is his more athletic counterpart? Neat.

Michael Hill and Robert Landers sure look like SEC interior linemen. Munger was offered by AU, UGA, TN, Stan, PSU, ND. Clearly they saw something.

I would like to see them to sign more DTs, but this notion that they've been lazy or chasing 1-2 is ridiculous. I would like them to sign a pile of stand out DTs, but that's not realistic. Frankly, the difference between a great class and an okay one is probably Beckner, at least when talking about interior DL.

I would kill for some of JT's "beat the B1G" level DTs that you would downgrade, which is a curious bit of stereotyping given how recently the midwest killed the big bad SEC (and not just a merging of JT & Urban talent, but the ultimate set of B1G sleepers from Madison bullying the high flying Auburn Tigers).

Can't coach bodies that you don't have. It takes time to develop elite Defensive linemen.

So I guess Hill and Munger are garbage, by the way they are just RS Freshman, but it takes time according to you to develop them. So that means our only 3 guys that could possibly ever play DT should be shown the door because they aren't producing yet.

so how bout we back off the ledge for DT recruiting...

:slappy: this is reminding me of Oline recruiting and Cdiddy70's rants about how we need every Olinemen out there.
