Top 5 Moments in the 2009 Championship Season

Go Buckeyes!

  • Here are the top 5 accomplishments for the Buckeyes Big Ten Championship season, in my opinion:

    5. Sweeping the Big 10 - Big East Challenge. The Buckeyes started the season in Florida in the inaugural Big Ten - Big East Challenge. They enjoyed three close wins vs a ranked Norte Dame squad (2-0), Connecticut (6-4) and in-State rival Cincinnati (6-5).

    4. Starting the season 18-3. As is now the norm, Ohio State started the season with their first 21 games on the "road" in Florida. The Buckeyes made the most of their trip to the Sunshine State by going 18-3

    3. Beating Miami (FL) in Coral Gables 7-1. The Miami Hurricanes are one of the top programs in College Baseball. The Buckeyes went into their place in Coral Gables, Florida and not only won, but won in convincing fashion 7-1. It gave the Buckeyes the confidence to compete with the top programs in the Nation.

    2. Wimmers no-hits Michigan. It is always good to beat Michigan in any sport, but it was especially satisfying to watch Alex Wimmers no-hit the Wolverines. Since 2003, Michigan has won all five series against the Buckeyes and 20 of the past 26 games, but the Buckeyes had their number in this series, winning 2 of 3 and essentially knocking the Wolverines out of the regular season title hunt.

    1. Big 10 Championship on the last day of the season. Going into the last series of the season, 4 teams were separated by 1.5 games. The Buckeyes needed to sweep pesky Iowa and get some help from Penn State in their series against Minnesota. Both things happened allowing the Ohio State to win their first regular season Big Ten title since 2001.

    GO BUCKEYES!
