Amaker dismissed after six seasons as Michigan coach
Associated Press

ANN ARBOR, Mich.
-- Michigan coach Tommy Amaker was fired Saturday, two days after his sixth season with the Wolverines ended with an 87-66 loss at Florida State in the NIT.

Michigan went 22-13 this season. Amaker's record at Michigan was 109-83, with three 20-win seasons, but his teams went only 43-53 in the Big Ten. The Wolverines never made the NCAA Tournament under Amaker.

Not sure how long, but back online.

I find this firing incredibly disappointing. Amaker should have been given at least ten more years to prove himself. After all, he took over a program that was deep in the crap after the sanctions, and he took it to new levels of mediocrity. M stands for mediocrity and I for one will be very sorry to see Tommy Amaker coaching on the sidelines elsewhere.

As an aside, we should not be deluded that Voyd will be focused on Ohio State like never in his career, because he will know that his stay at TSUN sleeps with the fishes too if we beat them again.

Anyone else actually surprised they actually had the balls to fire him.? I find that quite interesting. Now, are they going to bulldoze that horse barn of an arena they play in???
I'm actually not the least bit suprised. Alumni support for the basketball program has dropped off, attendance is down (they drew just over 3000 for their home NIT game:slappy:), and they haven't sniffed the tournament in nearly a decade. He was consistently unable to develop the (respectable) talent he brought in and his teams were notoriously soft. A sub-.500 Big-10 record and pitiful showing against their rivals only added too it. Frankly, I'm suprised he lasted as long as he did.

Actually, that is my point. They've shown no progress IMO the entire 6 years of his tenure. Why fire him now, why not last year, or the year before. Leaving him in place for 6 years tells me they thought he was improving the program, what lightning bolt indicated to them he was not.?

If I was looking for a coach right now, I'd throw a huge stack of cash at the guy down at VCU...he was at Florida for 10 years IIRC so he knows what it is like to build a program at a high pressure school and he can clearly coach his rear end off, he's a Billy Donovan clone from what I can tell
