Tim Beck (HC Coastal Carolina)

Charisma goes a long way. Look at the long string of coaches who were excellent recruiters but failed miserably getting anything out of them.

It helps when the product you're selling is Dave Brandon's Michigan.

I am home from work now...

OH
MA
GAWD.

This couldn't have worked out better even if I had dreamed it.

So, you guys offload one of the worst Offensive Coordinators in CFB history to one of the most HATED teams (at least by Huskers) in CFB.

As much as I like Herman - I DESPISE Texas even more...and one of our former OCs (Watson) already did in one coach and set them back years.

This is like Christmas all over again, LOL

Well, yes and no, Until we know the replacement there's no reason to be overly excited.

By the way, how does this guy end up giving an interview, talking about players not doing their jobs, and talking about finding an identity next year on offense when he was already gone? He should have been escorted out of the stadium.

Additionally, you have to wonder how this went down. We were commenting how Charlie Strong isn't a DC option because Strong tried to hire Herman to Texas. So did Meyer address it or did Herman think he was pulling a fast one on Meyer? very confusing, but glad it worked out for the good guys.

One man's trash is another man's treasure... or garbage. I forget which.

"We're Texas, every hire must be a splash headline hire."

More I think about it - Beck was brought to OSU to recruit Texas. Bringing Beck to Austin is a clear shot across the bow of A&M, Baylor and TCU. I'm here to reclaim the recruiting rights in this damn state.
It's like I said earlier...yeah, Beck can recruit, but that means dogshit when he's torpedoing those same players on the field. If Beck's coaching and involvement in the offense can damage two Urban Meyer teams, what do you think he can do to Tom Herman's?

I'm very confused by it. I get bringing him in as a recruiter, but everything being reported is that he is going to implement Herman's offense, coach qbs, and call the plays. Essentially the same role he was brought in for here and failed MISERABLY at. Maybe it's all just a public knob job and he won't actually taint their offense by being involved in it, but why say he is? He's coming off a very public failure...it's not like you're pissing anybody off by just hiring him as a recruiting coordinator or some similar position. This guy must be able to sell ice to an Eskimo. He hoodwinked Meyer into hiring him, now Herman. Guess we'all see how involved he is in about nine months.

You need to hire a person to recruit the state of Texas.......when you're Texas?

Apparently. Especially when you have Texas A&M, Baylor and TCU blowing your doors off in recruiting the local market.

I don't know how good Kerry Combs is at coaching DBs, but his knowledge of the coaches and kids in Cincinnati stopped a lot of poaching by ND and Michigan in the area. I suspect Beck falls into the same category; someone with connections to the coaches of Texas High Schools.
