Third Saturday in November

cincibuck

You kids stay off my lawn!
I gotta believe that 2008 is the last season the Buckeyes end their season on the third Saturday in November. I hope and pray they won't go off and do a conference championship game, but the conferece has to be concerned about giving the TV screen over to every other major conference and the time frame between the end of Big 10 season and the bowl season.

Will 2009 bring about the change and will Michigan be willing to move The Game back?

Is it August yet?

FYI, the Big Ten football schedules for 2009 and 2010 have been released. They are listed in the 2008 Big Ten Football Media Guide, with a 'subject to change' disclaimer on the page.

In 2009, The Game in AA is scheduled for November 21st.

In 2010, The Game in the 'Shoe is scheduled for November 27th.

The fourth Saturday in November?

Less of a layoff between games...guess that's a good thing.

I always liked the Big Ten's stance that the regular season should end before Thanksgiving, allowing the athletes to go home for the holiday. Since that's been abandoned, I support scheduling the last regular season game on the same day as other conferences championship games. Give all Big Ten teams a bye week for Thanksgiving, and provide the championship game conferences with some competition for viewership. Most years, the Big Ten Championship is decided by the last weeks games, anyway. It would also give most BCS conferences the same layoff between the end of the season and bowl games. IMO, they should also shorten the time between New Year's Day and the BCS CG. Just play the 5 BCS bowls on consecutive nights.

i think we've proven that it puts the B10 at a slight competitive disadvantage come bowl season. even though i like being done by t'giving, there is no point in putting our boys at a disadvantage. things change

rather than adding a bunch of byes, why not start a week later?

Good point. No reason to start games in Aug. when it's still hot and school isn't even in session. That would probably mean pushing back fall camp by a week also. I like the idea of a T-giving week bye, though.

Times when The Game has been on the fourth week...

A couple of seasons back I believe once in the mid eighties (the notorious fourth and one QB bootleg game) and 1963, when the Kennedy assassination caused the game to be postponed.

I personally wish they'd go September - November and leave the first week in December strictly for Army - Navy.

TV money must be the driving force in lengthening the season.

And TV $ is driven by viewership. They know if they put college football on, it will get enough viewers to generate revenue. Very few other types of programming has as high a "floor" as college football when it comes to ratings.
